A foot further?? Sod that. When I worked from Leeds I was once on the same job 3 days running & two of those days was running late (through no fault of mine ) The 2nd late day when I arrived into Ravensthorpe there was an old guy at the start of the platform stood tapping his watch at me, so I went right to the far end of the platform, gave him an extra 50m walk

I go to football (home games, in Hull) on the train, pedal to the station, lock the bike up, get on the train, listen to the radio and bury myself in a good book, or talk football to other supporters on the train(be they home or away fans). I find it much more pleasurable than driving there and it's just as quick

Some of the best train drivers in the country work on that route  ........................ & me too

C'mon Solty, spill the beans. You must have more of these stories.

If we're running a fraction early, I approach platform end at ~5mph, they start to think you are stopping short, but let it roll right to the far end muhahahaha by the time I wasted a minute there, we're on time again

I have seen that a few times.
Passengers (sorry, customer) run towards the train, realise it's carrying on, then start running back the other way again.

Why do people spend a minute hunting for their phone and then another minute looking at it while it is still ringing deciding whether to answer it or not ?

I used to laugh quietly at the people on the Jubilee Line out of Canning Town who would be still be chatting on their phones as the train went into the tunnel.  They would then look at the phone, I assume to see if there was a signal

Not many spring to mind tbh. I was once working from Leeds to Blackpool & after leaving Blackburn there were loads of spotters alongside the railway in fields etc with thier cameras, so I guessed there was something 'special' coming through soon. As I approached Bamber Bridge station, sure enough there was a steam train coming the other way, the station was full of spotters ready to capture the moment, unfortunaly for them, the timing was excellent, I passed through the station at the same time as the steam engine, so all the spotters on my side missed out  There's a video of a similar but better inicident on YOU TUBE

There is a group on FACEBOOKwhere railway stories are published, whether they are all true, or exagerations of truths I'll let you decide ;)

What was it somebody in Iarnrod Eireann (Irish Rail) said, 'this job would be great if it wasn't for the passengers' ;)

I think the quote was..."the trains would run on time if it weren't for the passengers"

I like trains, they make me more productive. I'm bad at doing my uni work if there's anything else that I could be doing (CycleChat), so I only take my books with me on the train so that I have no choice. Knuckle down or listen to Chantella and Mercedes talk about how drunk they got at a party and how they're not sure how many lads they got off with.
