I had a heavy fall this week and broke the rear derailer hanger. The bike frame is Trek 5500 and I now have two choices. Buy a new frame, get it repaired. Can anyone help?
I would suggest that you get an a assessment of the damage from a reputable LBS. I had a similar event on my Tricross, ended up with a new hanger, rear mech, cable and rear wheel repaired (2 spokes) came in at about £125.
I don't think it will be as easy or cheap for the OP, ACS. It seems the 5500 has an integral gear hanger, whilst the Tricross has a sensible bolt on one.
Having an integral gear hanger on a carbon frame is rather sub-optimal IMHO. What does the dealer say?
