Trek frame size - how does it compare?

I am lucky to be off to the Algarve next April and whilst my mates are golfing I will be cycling. I have found a cycle hire shop that rents Trek roadbikes. Nothing like planning in advance!

I have no experience of the brand and wondered if anyone can advise how a Trek "Large" frame size compares to a 56 cm Surly crosscheck.

Many thanks.

Unlike say, Giant for example, Trek actually provide sized bikes, one reason I've repeatedly bought them over the years, other than the fit seems to work well for me. It's likely that the shop has selected a few sizes and labels them as small, medium and large for example. I'd reckon that if you expected a 56cm/58cm rough size on a large you probably wouldn't be far off. It's unlikely that they've got a 60+ cm bike in.

I'd reckon a bit of saddle height adjustment and you'll be fine. It's not like you're gonna be buying the bike where getting it perfect is more important.

How long is your inside leg?

Mine is 29" (short)

my Trek 1.5 is a 54

My Cube agree is a 56

Tried a Spa cycles steel tourer the other week- 51

That's a muddy answer....
