Trek FS new drive train recommendations needed

The gearing on my old Trek FX is very worn. I was thinking about replacing the 3x8 drive train with a 1x

A shimano cues 1x9 would do the job but should I go for something more premium and maybe 1x11

CUES would be fine ! But you'll need the groupset if you have integrated shifters/brake levers

I swapped out the integrated shifter/break leavers already and added hydraulic breaks but I will still need to replace the shifter to accommodate the extra rear gears and also cues has a different pull ratio to older shimano stuff

Would a 11 SPD fit the freehub have? I thought they only went to 10 speed 11 speed + are different.
