Ok, i've had my Triban 3 for six months now and i think its time for some upgrades. i want to race in some criteriums in the summer and hopefully do a sportive. This is my first bike and i thought i'd ask the experts in my bikes field to see if stuff i've listed below is compatible with the bike and each other as well as safe. my aim is to get to bike to around 7kg and afford a power meter for the budget of £600 with some half decent components and retain the all important triban 3 distinctiveness (if thats a word)

IMHO, most important upgrades:

WHEELS AND TYRES - biggest difference for the cash.
Change to compact 105 drivetrain
Carbon seatpost if you must.

You don't need a power meter or a 10k bike to learn how to climb a hill .
I have never been on a Triban so cant comment on the bike but I have seen it raved about as the best bike in that price range . That still makes it a low end budget bike even though it has respect . To throw money at it would be daft IMHO but its your bike and your money so have fun

You can get a 105 groupset for about £300, that will probably work out a bit cheaper than doing it mix and match.

I'd avoid aliexpress - the fsa, specialized and bontrager items linked to will be fake.

Saw this video and thought i've got to have one. Would you say no powermeter for better components?

You dont need a power meter to pace yourself up a hill. Besides there are alot of riders already at the top by the time he gets there so while he overtook a few in the group he was riding with it doesnt really mean anything. Particularly as a few of those he overtook had to walk up the hill - it wasnt the lack of a power meter that made them do that!

A power meter only has use if you understand the data it presents, and you need to understand the action required to improve in specific areas along with having the commitment, desire, time to do so.
Without these a power meter is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

IMHO before anyone purchases a power meter the first upgrade required is a book on training with a powermeter

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I think the OP wants to make a triban that looks like those cars that look like a bog standard model but are unbadged with tweaks, unfortunately you can only tweak a bike so far before it becomes more expensive to buy the parts than to buy a better bike with a better frame to start with .

You need to get out there and ride up hills ! , you can stick all the fancy kit you like on a bike but if you don`t get out and work at it then ....

Wheels and Tyres.
Anything else would be a waste.
Even £1000 bikes come with very average wheels and tyres.

Then save-up a nearly grand and buy a Planet X or Ribble carbon bargain ...and then add the decent wheels you purchased for the Triban!
