I just saw the new film version of the novel, True Grit. It was alright.

Anyone else seen it?

Got a good review today in the Independent. You can rarely go far wrong with a Cohen Brothers movie, whatever it is about IMHO.

Just been looking on Rotten Tomatoes and this site gives the new True Grit 95%! i wouldn't have give it that. 6/10 from me. Not my cup of tea, this fillum as I'm not a cowboy fan but have usually liked the Coen's stuff. Thought it suffered from a weak story, well filmed like and true-er to the book but the central character, the 14 year-old girl, is just unbelievably knowledgeable for someone that age in that time. And Matt Damon (put on deranged mutant voice when saying or reading his name, 'Team America' style) suffers far too much punishment to be in the good nick he was. Alright, is the biggest praise I can bestow on it.

There was I bit of na arguement on TV this morning as to the name of the main character. Was it coburn or cogburn.

Apologies! I mis-read your post (well, it was late).

I thought you meant the actor playing the main part (Jeff bridges, as opposed to James Coburn)!

Rooster Cogburn is the correct name, AFAIK!

Jeff Bridges!

Have you seen it Dayvo?

The Big Lewowski remains unsurparsed for me and Jeff Bridges is, of course, a great actor.

I'd like to see it.

I've got so used to your avatar, I think you are "The Dude", so I wonder if I would get the same feeling watching the film - seeing Bridges as "The Dude" all the time.

Who knows?

Also a quick quote from a random moment in the best film ever

(The Dude: Walter, the chinaman who peed on my rug, I can't go give him a bill, so what the **** are you talking about?
Walter Sobchak: What the **** are you talking about? The chinaman is not the issue here, Dude. I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand, Dude. Across this line, you DO NOT... Also, Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.
The Dude: Walter, this isn't a guy who built the railroads here)

I never saw the remake but I am reading the book. Mattie Ross comes across quite differently to Kim Darby in the original film. She's not entirely likeable. She's rather like a very young Margaret Thatcher I imagine.

I seen the remake and enjoyed it but not in the same way as the original when John Wayne was John Wayne. The re-make was gritty and was maybe how some things happend. The music score in the original was good in the re-make it was folk music, which probably went with the tone of the film better than a big band score.
