Yep. I built my own and it's very comfortable, although I wouldn't ride it for long distances > 40miles. I did a 100 mile route round the fens on it once, felt like I'd been folded in half by the end. I do ride it for pleasure, but only in the good weather, as it's seriously fast and great fun. Riding it anywhere with a lot of traffic is a no-no as having the brakes separate from the bars isn't good in sudden stopping situations. I usually head out and do a 40mile loop in the country away from main roads and hills. It's amazing just how much faster TT bikes are than normal road bikes, and whenever I'm out on it some roadie nearly always has a small dig to race me, but just cannot hold on once I put the hammer down. When on a smooth road, on a warm day with fresh legs it feels like flying....just amazing.

That Shiv is lovely...apart from the paint job!!! The S-Works TT has to rate in my top 3 TT bikes along with the Scott Plasma and Pinarello Bolide, all of them are beautiful to look at and wickedly fast.

I commuted on mine a few times but only cos I had no other bike at the time. Most of the commute is on nice open road though. I only ride it for training and racing as a matter of course, I wouldn't plan to go out and just ride it for fun, although I have done a couple of 80 milers on it so comfort is not too bad.

I quite like the paint job , I trust you have a skin suit to match it
When I say riding for fun , I call 20 - 30 miles as fast as I can fun rather than a pootle along the river stopping for a picnic although I guess the latter could be fun .
I guess adding the TT bars to the road bike will give me some idea of the riding position and if its any benefit to my lap times ?

They look like fun
Do any of you ride one just for the fun of it ? Or are they for ONLY if you are seriously doing TT's ?

I am not sure why you wouldn't want to race one? But then I don't really get why everyone isn't racing their bikes. All my bikes get raced, even the pub bike.

People can ride what they want and spend their money on what they want, but IMO, if you aren't racing TT's or Triathlons, a TT bike is an expensive novelty. The bike itself won't make you fast either, it is what you do with it, it will simply allow you to get more aero whilst remaining powerful IF you put the time in.

The hours I have spent thinking about and trying to get more aero is ridiculous (just had 3 different sets of extensions with various angles arrive just this morning to try optomise my hand position) and I am still like a brick wall compared to some riders. With riding a TT bike comes hours of looking at pictures and video of yourself riding your bike looking at how you could get more aero, then trying the positions on the turbo trainer to check that it doesn't detriment your power output too much.

Or maybe I am just obsessive

No , just your typical racer.

When I said I ride it for fun, I meant for training purposes as well as comfort. Pro's who are good time trialists get out on the TT as often as possible to get comfortable in that position and stay flexible (even for recovery rides) as mentioned by mr durbridge:

Everytime I get out on the TT it makes me smile...enough said. ^_^
