On normal tubes, the valve collar may, or may not have a small thin lock ring on them to hold them straight against the rim, or at least I think that's one of there uses! There not completely essential to a successful set up.

The valve collar on tubeless set ups has a larger, beefier lock ring on it with an O ring nestled inside to prevent air leaks. Look closely and you will see the edges of the O ring nestled in there. I strongly suspect the mechanic will have noticed that and correctly deduced that you were running tubeless.
You’re right, glance & you will miss that inspect & you will see.

By coincidence this popped up in google feed was perusing on the loo this morning. one of the points made is the lack of standards, particularly for road / gravel tubeless. Tubeless ready can mean anything from "specific reinforcement of rim / bead for the purpose", to "whack some sealant and hope for the best, but i'm charging a premium for the label regardless".

another article on there was bemoaning the increasing divergence of standards - like multi BB standards, proprietary seat posts, internal cabling through headsets rendering home maintenance a nightmare etc etc.

I’ve been running these wheels for 2 years tubeless but the mechanic just put tubes in saying they’re not compatible. I think he’s made a mistake.

The spec doesn't say tubeless but the Wiggle team thinks so.
