Going to be off the bike soon for 3 months or so due to shoulder tendon surgery. So I can maintain some level of fitness and hang onto my sanity I'm about to buy a turbo trainer.

Has anyone on here done the same during recovery from similar? I'm a bit concerned about maintaining balance while spinning with one hand on the bars...

Alternatively, someone offered me use of a static bike; having used these in gyms years ago I'm not keen although I suspect they are more stable/upright.

Help please!

Loch side.
If you are not roller-trained yet, starting off with just one hand will be difficult. Go for a mag trainer or similar.

I used my turbo following broken ankles and broken collar bones. It is a great help for bridging the period when you feel up to riding, but unsure about going out on the road.
Speedy recovery

Unless you are in a sling for weeks (unlikely, the surgeons and physios like patients to mobilise as soon as possible) why only one hand? I had a Labral tear repair earlier this year and was able to use my static bike after a few weeks

Get your physio's or surgeon's advice as to when you can use the turbo safely

The surgeon told me that I will have to use a sling for 6 weeks, no cycling or driving for 10-12 weeks. Tendon has completely broken....

Oh dear, sounds nasty. Hope it all goes well. Make sure you get a good Physio on board when you can start mobilising and strengthening

I had no driving for 8 weeks after mine which was tedious but I wouldn't have felt comfortable doing so sooner. Did lots of walking
