Dunno, I'm watching it online right now.

Stupid and wrong comments about Holland being safer because of the off-road facilities.

They don't have a clue what they are talking about.
A driver opens their door into your path, it is automatically their fault, no matter what.

Getting worse... (Manchester cabby ranting about cyclists not paying insurance or tax...)

I would say some form of public liability insurance, is not such a bad idea.

However as the vehcile excise licence is based on emmisions, it would pointless as we are clearly emmision free.

Overall it wasnt a good programme at all, staged accidents dont really reflect what happens in reality. As a cyclist and motorist ( I cycle more than I drive) im not sure if I agree with the notion of making drivers automatically responsible, there are to many cyclists out there with poor road sense.

I was still ranting at work about the set up crashes whilst dripping with water after the ride in.....not sure if my work collegues were listening or just could not believe i would ride in this crap ! It could have been a good programme if it had been properly researched about the real life day of a commuter cyclists.

okay...watching it as I post.

First crash - cyclist pulling out around a car.

I would say, mainly the car at fault for a complete lack of anticipation but the cyclist could easily have avoided it. Saying that, many beginner cyclists do cycle further up to parked cars and want to pull out by them, rather than pulling out more gradually. I've seen this happen where the motorist is being a bit impatient behind and not giving them much room, or confidence to pass the vehicle.

Second crash - the left hook.

Completely the cyclist's fault. Never undertake someone indicating left. Simple. The driver should pay a little more attention, but doesn't take away from what the cyclist did. Not an accurate account of a left hook though.

Bit about the cyclist & lorry is a shame. Quite a balanced bit.

Final accident - the door...well. Read the HC.

Twit Gear presenter about insurance...yes, because if I can't be blamed for an accident I'm going to go out and crash into cars for fun. Moron. Cyclists won't intentionally crash into cars "left right and centre".

Cyclists to have numberplates...because they work 100% of the time with motorists.

Overall, not too bad a programme. With the incidents it would have been nice to have an official outcome based from what the law actually states.

The CTC guy seemed to be the only one of the people on the panel with any sort of clue. Presented himself well. Don't know why they didn't get someone from the AA/RAC/a motoring organisation to show up.

I think the programme is a shift in the right direction. Yes, it wasn't great but wasn't too anti-cyclist IMO. Reasonably balanced.

It was nice in all the random bicycle shots they nearly all had lights on and were waiting at lights

True, but such a vanishingly small amount of harm is caused by cyclists its hardly worth ranting about.

The car mechanic/s saw him coming!

£800 damage!? And the cyclist was able to ride off!?

Mug.

The cyclist was unconscious for a period of time I believe. If that was the case the driver could of taken the cyclist to small claims court to reclaim his costs. I don't know why he didn't.

Yes they did say the cyclist was unconscious for a brief period.

I would certainly have taken him to court to recover the cost of any repair, and lost earnings while my cab was of the road.

I was unfortunate enough to have a council van reverse into me about two years ago, damage looked minimal to me. It ended up costing over £600, not that I was too bothered as they were liable.
So I wouldnt be too quick to discount his story.
