Soo I finally took the plunge the other week to commute.
12hr shifts and logistical nightmare were some of the reasons I hadn't. I won't bore you with details.
Anyway my backpack was another reason.
do I take stuff to work in the car to save weight blah blah.
so my backpack is heavy but tbh I don't notice it.
tonight I weighed it ,,,, 12 pounds

so that is half of the weight I have lost recently .
No way ???

Then I asked the mrs to lift it (the backpack  ) but she moaned her wrist was hurting ( trying to lift the backpack   )

so after the conversation of "no way, so much weight loss, even with the bag on i am still another bag lighter"
she remarks how skinny I have got

i better either start eating some cake or shave my legs

I'm trying my best to return from being a roadie. So shave them legs, you can have my place in the clan...

Well done on the weight loss btw :notworthy:

her indoors is already suspicious of my weight loss which actualy stems from eating a better diet due to bad heartburn.
Shaving my legs may send her over the edge
i like cake

Get a rack. Seriously. Even if only a seat-posted mounted one with a box on top. I've got http://www.decathlon.co.uk/300-seat...8304121.html?gclid=COa0sPy_58gCFdXNGwod2mYLCQ with https://www.cyclestore.co.uk/altura...gclid=CJyBsovA58gCFSIewwodA_UO7Q&gclsrc=aw.ds on top. You just don't notice it then; it's behind your saddle so it's shielded from the wind by your legs and torso so adds no drag; if you ever stand up in the saddle you're not having to raise the weight as you do so. And if you don't like how it makes your bike look, you can attach it only when commuting. I did find I had to attach mine to the seat tube rather than the seat post, but that's because I commute on an old school steel late 80s frame with horizontal cross bar and it looked very very silly on the seatpost ;)

Thanks but it would probably snap with the weight of the bag
I'm happy enough with the backpack.
I take the seat bag off and put that in it and then have two seat post mounted lights .

What do you carry that's so heavy, can't some of it stay at work?
This

I keep jeans, trousers, shoes, toiletries and a towel in work (change the trousers over when I go by car every so often)
Tiny Aldi back pack has shirt socks and shreddies each day - very light
Waterbottle cage mounted container has spare tube, tools etc

Plus one for the rack, I've used a rack on my commuting/winter bike for years, though I don't carry as much as sanddancer. I just carry my sarnie box, glasses, phone, lock and waterproof.
