It's that time of year we start thinking about a challenge for next year ,if you haven't noticed there's a selection of challenges in the challenges sub section of this forum and this a blatant recruitment drive to get more participants next year . There's a challenge that will suit any ability of rider
There's the classic monthly distance challenges where you ride at least 1 ride of that distance per calender month for the year .These come in distances of 50km or 50 mile in the Half century ,100km (62.14 miles ) in the Metric century and the full monty imperial mile century variety
. Then come the self setting target challenges of distance and elevation called the Lunacy challenges ( long story ) in these challenges you set your self a target either distance ( in the distance ) challenge or elevation (in the climbing one ) and you have to meet that target 13 times ( lunar months) but you can do it at any time so if you don't like winter outdoor riding these are ideal
Finally there's the 3 *30 mine rides a week really what it says on the tin ,ride your bike for at least 30mins 3 times every week ( I think this is harder than you might think )
quotes from people completing the half century challenge
. "These challenges really are a good thing, though. Not sure I'd have got on my bike more than a couple of times in the last six months if it wasn't for keeping the run going".
"There's no doubt I've found this thread a motivator"
This is what the challenges are for just that extra motivation to get out you out riding when you might not have bothered and your in it with others who all encourage everyone on
So pick your challenge your 26 and let's get out riding

I will stay in the 50-a-month challenge, but have dropped/am dropping out of all of the others.

I am toying with starting a new flexible challenge which would sit comfortably alongside the existing challenges. I will think about it for another week or two and then decide whether to set it up for everyone, or just keep it as a personal challenge.

My challenge is either to get back track racing and also try to get an early entry for PBP 2027 by doing a BRM audax - with various distances diarised. However, I'm not sure I can do both this time round and I'm currently way off race fitness.

Y-fronts getting too crusty and stiff?

Indeed. The danger is they crack and the flakes grunge up the chain, and thats a chain you definitely dont want to Mickle.

Good post @13 rider !

Hopefully it'll encourage a few more to join in a challenge or two (or three or four) next year.

@HLaB - why not join in? You do more cycling than just about anybody else in the forum.

@cyberknight ... sorry to hear that you've still got problems with the knee. If next year's MCAM challenge won't work for you, come and join us in the Lunacy Distance challenge again - and remember, you don't have to set your target as high as 100km - and you don't have to start until the Spring.

It would be nice to know that someone might get enthused by reading this post.
