Turning right from a bus lane

I prefer to slot into traffic if I can but sometimes it isnt possible and I've ended up doing a 2 stage turn or whatever they call it; turn to the left minor and then go straight over. The Stilorgan Dual carriageway in Dublin has the official markings for this I think they copied it of the Dutch.

In similar, I tend to look for a gap to slot into..doesn't have to be right at the front.

Main thing is not to do the motorist trick and be so focussed on your turn that you MUST make your turn regardless. If it doesn't work and you have to pass your turning, c'est la vie, and adjust route accordingly.

The key is, as you say "Knowing the timing of the lights".. I don't so can't answer properly

So bus lane is lane 1 and the other two lanes are lanes 2 and 3.
Could you filter between 2 and 3? That would be my personal choice, i would then look for a spot between two cars which i could fit into near the front. I would then go into that and take a primary position ready for when we start rolling.

I try and stagger my move from the left through to the right hand lane if possible, but sometimes I stay in the bus lane until the junction and then get off and use the crossing, depending on the traffic.

+1

Although it does depend on the detailed lie of the land, this would be my default. Ideally I'd take up position behind the first car, ready to follow him round the turn when the lights change.

Wot gaz said. If there really was no way of filtering through I'd just stop and let the guy on my right know what I'm going to do. Then proceed as planned...

Where is this, by the way?

I agree with what Gaz and others have said, but you did say there was no room to filter to the right or between the traffic (presumably between lanes 2 & 3). In this case, if it really is that bad, I would get off and walk over the crossings if it's going top be quicker than waiting in the queue.

I'm with Mr. Grumpy. Any doubts at all about the turn there is no shame in hopping off and using the crossing or lights.

It's the rush hour on a 3-lane road, the inside one being a bus lane. 100m of stationary traffic in the other two lanes approaching a set of traffic lights on red. There's a central reservation with barriers in the middle of the road, so no space to filter between the traffic or to the right. No ASL at the white line. You want to turn right at the lights.

Are you saying there is a barrier between 2 and 3, or just 3 and oncoming traffic?

There isn't enough space to filter between 2/3 because of space?
