I feel as though i have been robbed of three days cycling this week.I always watch the 6-30 programme Look North.Normally the forecasting is pretty good.So i make my decisions for the week on those. We like to get out early. But rain, heavy or light has been forecasted most days.Well again this morning its turning out half decent, and am still here.
What weather stations do you lot check on,before you make your decisions.

I am undecided today. My neck of the woods have been threatened with very heavy winds and I don;t fancy getting into trouble on the mountain tops. That said they are so often wrong. What to do, what to do?!?!

To see what the weather will be like I find it best to just look out of the window and see for myself then make a decision based on that. Better than the useless forecasts these days. I reckon it's the crap climate/weather models they use these days, probably based around the nonsense idea that CO2 is a major force in what happens.

I use both the BBC and Met Office websites and they're either spot on or disagree - which makes no sense, as the BBC gets their data from the Met Office!

I generally use a combination of the forecast and common sense, but have been caught out several times when I've set out under clear blue skies and been drenched in a downpour less than an hour later.

MWIS - as I live near the Lake District - they are usually pretty good (although the winds they give are for 900m, you have to interpret a bit).

They get their weather info from the Met Office too, but seem to interpret it a little more sensibly than the BBC presenters do (are the BBC presenters still meteorologists rather than just pretty faces?)

For predicting rain, I use the Met Office animated map that shows past rainfall and predicts the next few hours. I also find Liverpool Airport's weather reports are usually pretty accurate, if a little hard to understand.

The BBC have got today totally wrong so far. It was supposed to start raining heavily here 4 hours ago - it's still sunny and dry.

On Midlands Today yesterday Shefali the weather woman opened with:

"You've probably noticed that it's wet out there, that's because it's been raining."

at which point i switched it off.

For a general forecast I use xcweather and the Beeb. For rainfall, I use a number of animated rain radar sites, then judge the likelyhood of rain for myself. This Radar is currently the one I use most, updated every 15 mins. No method is foolproof though, and you just have to accept that you're gonna get caught out now and again.

At 6.20 this morning the BBC forecast predicted heavy rain all day starting at about 8, so far we had a little shower about 11 and the rain radar looks like it's going to be a dry afternoon. That's the third day in a row they have predicted heavy rain for Swindon and this is theird day they have got it wrong.

I regularly check the 5 day forecast on the bbc website... it's about as much use as a chocolate fire guard but hey... that's what happens when one tries to predict the future. Step aside Mystic Meg, here's John Kettley!
