I have no explanation.
I went to bed, absolutely fine. I woke up with a sore ankle.
It only hurts a little when I walk, but it's agony if I turn it.
Last time it hurt like this I was just sitting down and went to get up and "ow" sore ankle.
Clearly I was dreaming of running a marathon!

very strange , i have had loads of dreams but never dreamt of running marathons thats for sure

Were you involved in any sport before bed? (That could so be misconstrued!)

I once broke my ankle playing football when I was young, playing with friends. at the time I didn't really notice, actually carried on playing on it, finished, went home and to bed without noticing much. Woke up in the morning and it was black, and I couldn't lift it off the bed let alone put weight on it!

I'd been out for drinks with my friends - that could be considered a sport, maybe?!
Seriously, I did go for a run earlier in the day, it could be that. It's definitely not broken, just sore.

I am not a member, I am a free man !!!!!!
Have you checked for police cones or flashing lights from road works, you always knew you had an eventful night when either of those were present upon waking up.

I once had a house warming party and when I woke up at 6:30am the next day to check for damage I found the living room full of gates and plant pots, took me an hour to put them all back

It wasn't that raucous Phil.
Very dignified dinner followed by cocktails - served in a teapot of all things.
I'm thinking that I must've done something on my run, and it's just taken a while to show itself. Hopefully I'll walk it off through the day.

Hmmmmm. I hope it feels better soon Sandra, but if the pain persists for more than a couple of days I say a visit to your GP is in order.

I speak not only as a nurse, but as someone who thought she'd mysteriously pulled a groin tendon while watching TV, but woke up in Intensive Care with a nasty septicaemia the following day!

You've probably landed a little awkward whilst running and not thought anything about it until this morning. Most of us runners do this so often you just don't. Get some ice on it and elevate it tonight (no chandeliers though!). But as Sara above says - if it persists then get it checked out!

While I'm glad you said that Sara, I also wish you hadn't!
I will keep an eye on it, but last time it was gone the next day.
I did once have a mysterious pain and swelling in my foot - went to the doctors and they said "hmm, well you've definitely done something to it"

As a complete aside Sandra - and when you've healed - try switching to barefoot style shoe running! I used to get little niggling injuries all the time. Switched to barefoot shoes, which forced me to run properly (i.e. no landing on the heel) and don't suffer these now. There's a bit of a learning curve to start with and you won't be able to run as far whilst your muscles adjust but, IMO, it's well worth doing.

Thanks for the tip SquareDaff.
I do need new running shoes actually. Mr6 is trying to steer me towards the flexi sole ones he has, think they may be Nike, he's found them a great improvement. Hadn't looked at the barefoot ones though.
I'm still only half way through a 0-5k training plan, so changing style now would be better rather than doing it later I guess.

You probably did it running. I twisted my ankle during the day once, a quick hot pain but carried on and even cycled home. Next day, woke up, couldn't put any weight on it. Ended up having to use my camera tripod as a crutch for the day and I could walk on it again the next day, if a bit gingerly.
