And clearly the remaining two thirds would fail their practical test. Unless we've started driving on the right and nobody's told me.

That is scary! Just done it with me cuppa, 20 minutes, two wrong (who does hand signals in a car nowadays?) just confirms what everyone is saying, there are some very poor drivers out there

Well, I just spent about 10 minutes doing it, and scored 38/50, not too bad for someone who doesn't live in the UK and has never read the UK road rules.

There are several worrying things highlighted here!
The theory test is in fact so easy no-one should ever fail it. A little reading of the Highway Code beforehand is all that is required! Several of the questions you get ARE repeated, just rephrased slightly.
The driving test itself is frighteningly easy. If you have a licence how many out there would be prepared to try a driving test again? Simply reading Driving- The Essential Skills, would probably be helpful.
This is unfortunately seen far too often with people taking Taxi tests for local authority's. Too many think it's just a rubber stamp exercise and think they only have to turn up to pass! Even more frightening is the number of these folk taking the taxi test that fail it on a regular basis!
Unfortunately, too many people on the road today, know in their own minds that they never do anything wrong. It's always the other persons fault.
People should try the Approved Driving Instructor theory & driving tests, then you'll see how much you know. (Or don't know!)
Of course, reading the 2 publications I've mentioned, does mean that you have understand and apply what they say. And in my experience, too many folk who have a licence that do read them only use them too re-enforce their own ignorance.
