Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what is the average lifespan of good quality tyres?

Also I have read & heard different things about weather the seat should be level or tilted. Currently I have it level.
Any thoughts ???
Especially on the seat issue

Depends on the tyre and what compound they use. I've seen people quoting 3000 miles or more from some brands. My stock Giant tyres were pretty much gone after 1500 miles and the GP4000S that are on there now look like they will comfortably exceed that mileage.

Always best to start with the saddle level. If it's comfy there and not causing any issues, leave it. Some people will have them tilted forward or back, but usually only by a couple of degrees or so.

the marathon plus on my hybrid have done just over 4,000 miles and going strong. All my bikes the seats are as level as I can get them

Saddle level is a very personal thing. Start off level the tilt upwards or downwards as needed.

Tyres.. how long do they last?
Well it's a case of how longs a piece of string.
Lot's of differing factors determine the life of your tyres.

Tyres: Depends on the brand, how you ride, where you ride, the weather, and a few other things including luck.

My present tyres, marathons - the ones without the plus - have just got to 4000 miles and I think the back one is probably into its last 1000. It took a lot of wear in the wet weather last year.

I start saddles horizontal and work from there for greatest comfort. They often end up tilted but by not more than a few degrees. Fore and aft movement by a little from the 'ideal' makes similar differences.

I'm running Vittoria Rubino Pro on one and Conti GP4000S on the other. Both excellent, no punctures so far.

6300 miles out of my Gatorskins so far .... the rear is near the limit on the wear indicator but the front hardly looks worn.

I've got replacement Gators on standby but am considering doing a front/back swap with the current tyres to see how far they'll go. I'm not too sure about using the squared-off rear on the front though, particularly through Winter

If the tyre is squared off, then it's time for the bin. Don't swap them round - just move the front onto the rear and then buy a new tyre for the front. It's always better to have a new(er) tyre on the front.

Too many variabilities rider weight, coonditions etc but my Mitch Krlion Carbons lasted 6000 miles on the rear before p'turing and the front (now the rear) is still going but its been off the bike since April and probably could have got a bit longer but chose to fit a new tyre as I had it to hand. I'm going to go back to the flat and refit them tonight.
At a guess I reckon 3-4000 miles is the norm form me however I have had tyres fail at the side walls in just a couple of rides.
