Morning everyone – hope 2017 is kicking off well!

It’s finally time to replace my trusty CX tyres. The bike came with Schwalbe Racing Ralph, 700x33c.

Is there any material difference between 700x33c and 29x2.25? The price difference is £36 vs £16!

If it helps, they're to go on some mavic aksium discs, doing around 100 miles a week, all weathers etc..

The 29x2.25 tyres are 21mm wider.

Even if you can get them seated on the rims properly then the top of the forks might still not be wide enough for them.

Lovely bike btw.
Personally i would stick with whatever Cannondale have supplied, they tend to do it for a reason....have learned this over 20 years of owning their MTBs and road bikes...added to which Schwalbe are damn good tyres.

The 700x33c are narrower, and designed for CX / Hybrid / Gravel bikes, with the associated clearances. The other ones are designed for a 29'er mountain bike. As with most of these things, manufacturing numbers / volume and yield account for the price disparity.

I've run marathons before - while I'm not actually CX-ing, the route I take in winter (old railway line) has enough mud/ ruts/ slippery stuff that the CX tyres make it necessary.

I think I'll just bite the bullet & get new RR's - I've liked them so far & saving a couple of quid at the risk of not liking something seems a bit silly..

The 33s are about 33mm wide. The 2.25" ones are 57mm wide: 24mm difference - so unlikely to fit a 'CX' bike.
Edit: See post #12.
