Compo's puncture thread got me thinking about this. I got a flint through a Schwalbe Marathon tire with only a couple of hundred miles on it. I replaced it (the inner tube was bulging through the hole which is about 5mm long.

Anyway just thinking, can you patch a tire permanently. I have found park tire boot patches but it looks like it is only supposed to be a temporary solution. I managed to find a bit of card on the roadside which got me home.

Seems a shame to bin what is otherwise a new tyre. Anyone know of a permanent patch?

You need something tough but flexible. A bit cut out of an old tyre (minus the wire bead) or ask in the local car tyre depot for an old car inner tube and cut a bit off it.

Tried a bit of and old tyre but the friction between the edge of it and tube caused the tube to punture after 60 miles so would say anything you use to patch needs to be flush with the holed tyre at the edges
