The free version will do you fine, it’s only a little less BS than the premium. Insane really. Live segments is for knobbers who are usually young and very strong. Us middle age guys can’t compete with them.

I can at times - even without motor assist

which mean there is a tailwind - but it still logs it!!!

I suppose there’s times, I got 9th last week main road long segment with a tail wind and my old legs weren’t going that strong. Wind was 20mph.

Yes - although it is private so not visible - I got 3rd once on the segment across The Bridge

2 factors - firstly a gale force tail wind on a route where the wind is nearly always a head wind
and a bloke on a ebike holding his phone to his ear and holding his throttle open with his other hand - passed me just as I started the segment so clearly I HAD to pass him

I know mine is also an ebike - but the average speed was over 20 mph and starting speed was close to that so well over motor assist speed ona legal ebike!

Even the illegal ebikes could at least stay in the E-bike category.

Got 9th on a new section of cycle path the other day. I didn't even realise someone had set up a segment. If I had, I might not have stopped to check the map halfway through.

Meh. I gave up with Strava KOMs over 10 years ago. I had a KOM on a 1 mile gentle climb at 2-3% with an average speed of 25 mph due to a very strong tailwind. I acknowledge exactly why I got the KOM. Someone* destroyed my time by going over 40 mph. There is no point.

*I looked at their profile and they are/were nothing special. I would have accepted it from a pro.

The segments I see appear to allow all bikes
OK - I never see the ones that don't allow ebike rides - but my normal ride has so many segments that it I didn't even realise that ebikes could be excluded until I read someone saying so on here!

but there are some that I reckon were done in a car given the speed and the road conditions!!!

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.

Easily done. Forget to press stop on the GPS before putting the bike in a car. I'm going the bet that a fair few of these apparently cheating ones are just carelessness.

Oh yes - I agree some are accidents

but some just look dodgy

If you’ve been on Strava for many years then decide to go into private mode the reason is because you have problems inside your head. Otherwise there is no reason not to stay visible to your friendly Strava athletes.
If you never started Strava to begin with then you’re discounted, and fair play to you.

Mental anguish, got problems, problems inside your head, slipping into depression, going through a bad time, live segments is for knobbers........ just a selection of the words and phrases you've used to describe those who choose to change their Strava activity in some way.

It's hard to know whether you like or dislike Strava and its users. You're interested enough to know you got ninth on a segment last week. Really? You bother to check? As far as I can make out from this thread there's only one person "with problems inside your head" in this thread.

A couple of my buddies cancelled their subscriptions, I'm not renewing in May. Why? We are actively boycotting every American product we can in protest at Trump's actions.

No doubt this makes us insane or something.....I can't quite imagine what.

They may still be in the loft.
When I was very young, I used to be given the CTC Diaries. They had a little section on each day to record mileage. I used to record every ride, some mega rides, like going to shops in Prescot.

A whole three mile round trip!

I've still got one of those from 1970. Like you, every pedal stroke recorded.

You’re no better than your buddies. Birds of a feather flock together. Funny though, I like it.

Could you explain this please? I have a strong opinions on the current US president and the government. There is very little I can to demonstrate my objections to the fascist regime Trump wishes to establish. Boycotting American products is one. I take the trouble to tell those companies why in the hope they can bring influence to bear. I've discussed this with friends who live in the States, they're grateful for such actions.

It seems to me you should explain your appalling attitude towards others based on nothing more than a change in Strava behaviour. Take a look at this from the other side.

What everyone is forgetting though is unless it's on Strava it never happened 😂.

I'm on as a subscriber although not sure why now. I may well can the subscription and just use free app. It is useful for recording rides and tracking progress etc although other programs can do that.
There is the social element of following friends etc but the rabid competitiveness of some is frankly bizarre.

One slightly depressing thing is it shows how your speed decreases with time.
I had a ride yesterday, felt good and went up a few steep climbs with a decent tailwind. I idly thought to myself "those must be in my top 3 attempts". Not a hope, significantly slower than 10 years ago.
Oh well.

Edit: I suppose I can though console myself that in my age group I'm in top 3 of pretty much every segment. Meaningless though of course!
