Poetry in Motion is the first one to get back to me after enquiries. For my price point they recommend:
'- A set of Kinlin XC279's which come in 20, 24, 28 and 32 holes so you have a choice
- A set of Bitex hubs
- Built up with a set of black double butted Race spokes

You would be looking at a starting price of around £345

There are other options of rims, hubs and spokes if you want to upgrade them.'

Which is pretty much what Spa Cycles offer (hardware and price-wise) but closer to where I live so would give them priority.
Dylan from PIM used to frequent this forum regualrly & attended several forum rides. I've had a couple of sets of wheels off him, excellent quality & service :okay:

If a choice hasn't been made I can't recommend DCR enough some of their wheels made my Merida feel like a new bike.

Trimax 35 are excellent wheels, don't be put off, especially by those who are sometimes are going on the reputation on their occasionally derided Team 30/35 training wheels - they are chalk and cheese. I thought the standard best upgrade wheels under £500 answer was Campagnolo Zonda. Don't pay over £350 for the Trimax or £320 for Zondas as they're often available for that. Else handbuilt
