You wouldn't ride in the primary position all the time unless you are either going at a similar speed to the other traffic or that you need to for your safety prevent other traffic from overtaking you where it is too narrow to pass. Cyclecraft is good.

I doubt I could look 3 times at every car that passed me... not when there are other hazards such as side roads, parked cars and poor road surface etc to watch too.

Like Crankarm, and many others, I'm not going to undertake foolishly, RLJ, ride on pavements or do anything else I consider a pointless risk or illegal. Also, like others, I dislike being tarred with the 'all cyclist do that' brush. But, more importantly, I don't want to suffer at the hands of an enraged motorist because of the activities of another cyclist.

Straight question, straight answer: primary position means, essentially, occupying the position on the road a motor vehicle would.

Not a straight answer to straight question I'm afriad as I am still none the wiser as a bicycle and rider is a lot narrower and shorter than many cars and certainly lorries and buses.

I think alot of drivers realise there are proper cyclists and then there are those muppets who just ride bikes like loons. If you tret people with respect and courtesy most of the time it is reciprocated, not always, but most of the time.

I actually did something very similar as the female cyclist today when I was cycling behind a taxi coming from Cannon Street to Mansion House very near the ped lights near the station there is sort of a raised bit of road where lots of peds are.

Suddenly the female taxi driver pulled right into the so called pavement in front of me.I had no time to apply the horn but managed to stop but as the taxi had stopped in front of me I proceeded to undertake the bloody thing. Then she realised I was there and pulled away while acknowledging me with a raised arm.

Weird incident as she didn't pick up a fare and neither did I see anyone raise their arm.

I think at the time I just wanted to make her aware at what she had done and at no time did I swear or say anything but just went on my merry way.

Nah I guess I expect the worse from taxi's so I wasn't disappointed.Guess I had a moment of madness as well. Then again I could easily get up the pavement if it went tits up.Also offending taxi didn't have a fare either.

yep no problem in undertaking the bus in that situation, just a shame there's a load of rooks that can't ride a bike.

We're not worthy, we're not worthy....aye right.;)

(The word 'condescending' springs to mind once again!)

I meant in general not people on here, having said that you think I'm refering to you? Something on your Mag, not the cyclist you thought you was - ah well.

Lee, I think it is understandable the way I interpreted your post, especially considering your comments in post 59.

Hmm. Me thinks Lee is trying his very hardest to be the second person in my ignore list. Alas, you are a novice and have to try harder.

Mmm. Is it just me that thinks these posts are a little 'biting'? EMD and hackers have commented on it.

Your obviously on the wind up Lee, it is clear for everyone to see (I wonder if col and Mr Hippo will turn up now!). So I'll leave you to it.
