Many many years ago I read a book called 'A short walk in the Hindu Kush', and have wanted to go there ever since. Unfortunately the chances of getting killed are quite high.

Mali - I've always wanted to visit Djenne and Timbuktu. Probably a little hot at the moment.
Pakistan - would love to visit Kashmir

Great book - as are most of Eric Newby's.

OT:
In the early '80s I worked in Pakistan, based in Islamabad. An Argentinian colleague was showing me around and, pointing to the hills at the back, said "You see those hills ? They're the toenails of the Himalayas !" A wonderful expression, indicating they are a bit further away than the foothills ...

My homeland, the UK. Everyone tells how bad things are there, it never stops raining, the motorways are car parks, no jobs, too many cyclists on the roads, recession, price rises, average life expectancy falling, racism, riots, Tory government, NHS falling apart, crime, over population, very grumpy natives and the BEST BEER in the world.

I've read a lot of books on climbing....everest, mont blanc, peruvian andes etc, at 43 my time to take up mountaineering has probably passed but they're still places I'd like to see, visit..
Nooo! I was older than that when I did M. Blanc from the Cosmiques; and I shall be 20 years older than that when I toddle off for a fortnight in Ecuador, including - "if I'm spared" - Chimborazo.
IS that the one where they meet the famous explorer who calls them a bunch of fairies?
yep. They bumped into Thesiger who was less than impressed with their blow-up mattresses.

Blackpool.
I hadn't realised how unpopular it was until this morning.
I quite like it.
Yes, it's tacky. Yes, it's full of chavs, but it's Blackpool and they have a tower and a pleasure beach and trams with lights on.
What's not to love?!
I couldn't go for a week, but I like a weekend break.

A few years ago I did think Libya and North Korea would be interesting places to visit, I'm currently looking at a tour of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Find the normal destinations boring
