A nice broodje makreel, yes.
A broodje makreel is always frustrated by the absence of sambal at the fish stall.

Delicious. Raw herring, white bun, raw onions. Compulsory stop on any bike ride.

I can just about handle that, although it's one of those things that tends to stay with you.

Still find it a bit challenging on it's own - although ice cold korenwijn tends to numb the sensation a bit.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Whereabouts? I loved Patagonia, but thought Santiago was extremely dull. It had none of the buzz to be found in other S. American cities. That said, I could've done without an earthquake to liven things up!

All of it really- I have been lucky enough to get paid to go around the world for the last 14 years, however it's unusual for me to experience that much of life away from lab/hotel/bar/city centre. I'd like to meet more people away from a professional environment. I'd like to see the desert.

North Italy/Slovenia: the western Carso, around Gorizia and the grotesque Italian Facist-styled war cemetary on Repuglia/Mt Sei Busi. As a caver I'd also like to have a look underground at where the Austrians modified natural caverns during the fighting there in WWI. I read a superb history book about the awful war fought there in 1915-18 and would like to see the place. My OH has done via ferratas in the Dolomites but I wasn't interested at the time so didn't go - wish I had now (she is no longer up to climbing worse luck).
I'd also like to visit the remnants of the giant frontier fortresses in Flanders, espcially those built by Vauban ~1700. We had a walk around one and it was so big we had to give up after 2 hours.
