Being a Rohloff rider I'm fairly used to having other cyclists ask questions about the bike (when they can catch me ;))

But last night it was my turn to be nosey. I'd spotted the hub gear in front at the lights, but as we pulled away I noticed an unusual creak. I was just thinking that doesn't sound good when I realised the noise wasn't coming from the hub at all - it was band drive bike instead.

No chain!
A toothed fanbelt style rubberband instead. Apparently once the initial stretch is adjusted for it works pretty consistently and is simplicity itself to keep clean.

So what've you noticed out there on the roads? Hubs/frames/wheels etc? Anyone seen a shaftdrive?

I have never seen one in real life but I would like to have a look at a bike with hub-less wheels.

Plenty of recumbents, a trike, a velomobile, a tall bike, a rowing bike, a running bike, a left sided drivetrain bike.
and one of these

There's a guy who rides around Nottingham on a bike which appears to have a hand cranked front wheel as well as having a conventional pedal driven rear wheel. I haven't seen him for a while but next time I do I'll take a photo.

I saw a Pedersen once, but unfortunately I was driving, so didn't get the chance to talk to the rider.

Thought I didn't see any, but I saw a chap on a cargo bike yesterday. See him once in a blue moon. It's one of those with the front loading platform - i.e. you ride at the back. He usually has his dog in the front.

I occasionally see a recumbent trike and have once chatted to its rider as we waited at a traffic light. The other day I saw a two-wheeled recumbent which I've never seen before - the thing that struck me was how high the rider was, compared to the trike.

I get asked about the Brompton now and then - and sometimes I unfold it and refold it just to amuse small children!

I saw a belt driven recumbent the other day! Belt looked quite loose though so must just be breaking it in!

saw him again last night! its not a belt drive one as i first thought, the guy has some black piping protecting his chain (i blame it being dark when i first spotted him!)

I wouldn't call it strange, but there's a bloke rides a Maximus Rickshaw, and Arch and her colleagues that ride a Maximus cargo trike. There's someone knocking about on a recumbent trike as well, but he hangs around the uni so I dont see him much

About 3 or 4 weeks ago, coming into Retford I saw a guy on a penny farthing (or replica?) He timed the roundabout perfectly, but tbh, I kind of wished he'd had to stop so I could see the dismount/mount technique.

I regularly see a white recumbent on the A38 in South Glos heading north in the evening, he has a matching white beard too:whistle:.

And other bloke that I see is a blue sort of tandem where the adult is at the back, and the child is lower and at the front, though mostly the child isn't there. I normally see that in Bishopston. I always wonder about the bike poking out of the junctions in Bishopton which are normally parked right upto and including the junctions.

Trek Soho. I was keen on getting my grubby mitts on one of those but they didn't sell well, so Trek dropped them.
