Unwanted toolbar - how to remove?

On my compaq/HP machine ther is a desktop toolbar called 'HP Adviser'. I'd like to remove it or at least stop it smearing itself all over my desktop ikons..

Can anyone suggest how? Windows 7.

It should appear in Control Panel>Programs and Features, just click uninstall.

If it's not there, try the Start button and look to see if it has an uninstall option there.

If that doesn't work, you're probably going to end up in the world of registry editing. I don't mind it, some people find it terrifying because of the "Mess up in here and you have a doorstop" warnings from Microsoft.

Go to control panel > Taskbar and Start menu > choose the toolbars tab > unselect the "HP Advisor" toolbar. That removes it.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately they didn't do the trick, probably because I misdescribed the problem. The irritating item is the HP Dock and so perhaps not really a toolbar.

Anyway I got rid by using MSCONFIG whereby it is possible to list the startup progs and uncheck any you don't want.
