It was actually the 4th date but the first time I have been to his house. We went for a stroll around the village and ended up in the village pub. I hadn't noticed before but he does this thing that reminds me of my dad, every time we crossed the road he walked around me. At first I wondered what he was doing then realised he was making sure he walked on the road side. My dad always insisted the man should walk on the road side, it feels a bit old fashioned now though, maybe it's just his age, he's in his mid 50s.

That kind of thing (like opening doors etc) can feel good (you are cherished), or not (you are not capable of opening the door yourself). Fine line - so much depends on the way it is done!

Gawd. Any chance we can put the subject of Opening Doors for Women in the same ghastly ghetto as Helmets, Hi-Viz, and Why Don't Other Cyclists Wave at Me?Is there more than one way to open a door for a woman ?
Is there more than one way to open a door for a woman ?
Yup (and just to annoy theclaud)
1) There's reaching it at the same time or before her, and he pulls it towards him and lets her go through first.
2) There's reaching it at the same time or before her, and it has to be pushed, so he pushes it, goes through first and then holds it open while she goes through.
3) There's reaching it at the same time or before her, and it has to be pushed, so he pushes it but thinks it impolite to go through first, so he stands holding it open, in the way, so that she has to push past him, possibly coming into bodily contact to do so.
(Of course the bodily contact might be the point, but if that is the only way he can get such contact, that is very creepy.)
4) There's the she happens to reach it first, but he dashes around her to get it open for her, followed by 1), 2) or 3) above. 1&2 a bit silly, but not annoying. 3 still.
5) Any of the above done with patronising look or comment.![]()
