I read all about upgrades from many of you and to be honest, I keep asking myself why upgrading your bike with the relevant expense, unless you are into competitive cycling. If, on the other hand, you are like me, just cycling for the fun of it and keeping some sort of fitness, and only doing up to 50 miles max on the odd occasion, why upgrade? The only upgrade I have done on my Specialized Allez are the pedals. On my Giant, also pedals and Armadillo tyres. Both bikes weight under 10 kgs. At the age of 64, I don't try to be Chris Froome so quite happy with my bikes as they are. To be honest, I quite fancy a Cube Peloton but that's another story.

Only one thing to do then. Start being competitive and ride a few 10 mile TT's, then you'll have lots of reasons why you need to upgrade.

Cheers Keith

I'm with you on the upgrades front, and I love my Peloton! I hadn't seen one around these parts so I went for it liking the fact that it was 'unusual' and 'exotic' lol. However since picking it up I've seen three in three months now.

About the only thing I can see me upgrading on it will be the tyres possibly when they start to look tired, but even then the Luganos it has are just fine for my standard of riding. As far as I can see, I would never be able to do expensive upgrades the justice they'd deserve, I can't see how they could improve my riding that much to warrant the outlay. I think I'm the part that needs to be upgraded the most in all fairness

I have just cleaned both bikes and checked the weight of my wheels. Here goes:
Specialized Allez: 487 grs each.
Giant Defy 4: 560 grs each.
I can live with that.
