I notice Sarah Hammer was using an ordinary right way round bike for her flying lap in the omnium. So are they just using the funny bikes for certain events?

That would have been one of the events where a marginal gain (albeit a questionable one) might have been worthwhile, so it seems an odd choice. Unless of course they just couldn't get on with them, for some reason.

Actually, looking at it again, I think it's only the aero bikes that have it, rather than the regular track bikes. According to the Felt website it was developed with the specific goal of a women's team pursuit gold medal*. I guess cumulative marginal aero gains add up to more with four riders over 4km than for a single rider on a flying lap which I suppose depends more on raw power.

It appears that a few nations aren't happy with the Team GB's performance and hinted at cheating, these claims have been retracted now though
