Sod that, 90 says and the cost of an ESTA at £9 must look appealing now...

indeed...but it kind of puts a time limit on things...I may well ride faster than I anticipate (I did across europe) but the rockies in inclement weather and a the added stress of the time limit in my head...hmm...it's 4250 miles roughly not allowing for any detours of getting hopelessly lost. 4250/50miles a day ave = 85days....not allowing for any rest days or lay ups for mechanical issues or being totally whacked out.

Can you do it slower but go to Canada for a week then re enter the USA?

Or are you not allowed to do that?

I know for US citizens if they spend more than 90 days in the EU they have to leave for 6 months before returning again on a standard tourist visa.

I think its just revenge against the US rules - all EU immigration at airports should make yanks wait for an hour or more and then be bl**dy ignorant and abnoxious to them. Philly was the only US airport where the immigration staff were polite and civil to me (even if they didn't know what a shop assistant was) - plus the Cheese Steaks awaiting the next flight were damn good!

BOAB when and what part of the states are you touring.
good luck with it would nashville be on the route:becool:

Trans am aca route east to west is most likely...but I may decide to go to San Fransisco instead of up to seattle area. Timimg depends on the US embassy getting me a visa...thought I might go June>Sept 2012...however if th evisa drags on I'd rather postpone trip until the spring because I dont want to have anything to do with BAD weather in the rockies.

Oh some of them do....
A few years in LAX customs.
An old passport.
Customs official "Sir, you have put on a lot of weight since this picture was taken"
My reply.."Yes, it's due to the American sport of Donut face stuffing".
He looked at me as if he was about to shoot me....
Then he laughed.

Ok..I survived..just.

30 minute 'line' to get into the security check..got kicked out twice for having car keys, so had to got to the embassy'affiliated' pharmacy on the corner to store the keys at a cost of £3...then got thrown out again for having a memory stick in my wallet....ditched it in the park...got into the main hall....OMG...must have been at least 500 people in there waiting...I was number N459...great....90 minutes lates I am called, passport taken, finger printed, asked why i want to go to america and asked to sit back down again and wait for the main interview.....3 hours afterwards I am finally called, finger printed again, asked again why i am going to the USA and told my visa is approved. Am then directed to another 'line' to arrange the courier to get my passport back in 10 days time at a cost of £15 ish....they dont take cash or amex, only visa so a few people were farked. Got talking to a woman who had apparently been following me through the system, she and I decided that the USA clearly doesnt want any visitors from the UK, unless they are on 2 week package trips with fully loaded wallets.

Visa is for 5 years and gives me 6 months in USA from date of entry any time in th enext 5 years,

Glad you got it sorted in the end. The bureaucracy will be but a distant memory when you're enjoying the trip. :-)
