USB data splitter?

Looks to me like no solution to OPs question has emerged.

So one possible aspect is for OP to look at what they use Android Auto (Car Play) for and how dependent that functionality s on Android Auto.

For example, my basic single DIN car radio supports bluietooth input with right (tuning) know providing next/previous to the bluetooth device. Also supports USB stick for playing audio files/media. Navigation directions are played over the music through the bluetooth link (ie when using turn by turn directions).

For some, the Android Auto/Car Play functionality cthat is actually used can be achieved through other means.

I'm still a bit confused why connecting the phone to the data port, does not then enable your vehicle to see it as effectively a USB storage drive, or a portably hdd if you prefer.

I’m confused as to why you think that’s what the problem was.

If I were you, I would look for a FB Page for owners of vehicles like yours, and ask the question on there.

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve settled on a solution.

Simply because you stated that when you plug a usb device into your vehicles data port it allows you to browse the contents from your steering wheel controls - so presumably if you could get the phone to be seen also as a usb device (like it can in my vehicle) you would be able to browse it as originally requested.

In my 2016 diesel (Very unglamorous van based Ford) vehicle, I can connect the phone to the stereo as an AUX connection via Bluetooth or cable, and then browse it, skip tracks etc from the normal vehicle controls.
I'd be gobsmacked if a far more modern vehicle does not have that functionality
Huge backwards step/error if that is so.

On my phone when I connect it over cable, it normally prompts me with 3 options, and choosing the right one is key as to how the requesting device views the files.

Yes - but some vehicles can do this with a single device - such as a phone
but only through a single port

If this was a computer that had a single USB port then you could expand that by adding a USB hub which would allow for several devices to connect through it as if they were connected directly
SOme cars will accept the hub but anything connected through it is not recognised
Therefore you are limited to that one port and cannot expand it

which is against the USB specification but is cheaper to implement and uses less memory etc

this is - I think - the problem

That wasn’t what was ”originally requested”. It would help if you read the very first post. 🤦‍♂️

The question was:
Is there a device that would allow both the AA dongle and my media USB to use the same slot simultaneously?

The question was:

In a word no, because your car infotainment system is crap, and not up to scratch
