Well said hackbike  I was just composing a response after seeeing a couple of peddlers peddling pedals at a local street market, the pedals looked good, and I asked the peddler if he had a permit to peddle pedals before I handed over my money. I fitted the new pedals immediately, and on my way home I pedalled past the peddler I'd bought the pedals off. I was amazed, I had never overtaken anyone with my old pedals. Do you have any pedalling peddlers in your locality?

PS The pedalling peddler said next week he would be peddling brakes.;)

That's handy if your brakes break.

Newton said that on this occasion he was dialling a hotel number for a friend who was also in the car, but in the two previous offences he was speaking to his two children, aged 8 and 5 at the time.

They should have locked his friend up as well on 2 counts
1 - Aiding and abetting
2 - being too stupid to use a mobile phone.

Alright chum, keep calm.
He doesnt just need his licence to get to and from work, but to carry out maintence on the track at his work, because the machinary is kept offsite.
He should be fined not made to lose his job, but fined heavily, very heavily.
Ofcourse theres the time when the lorry driver got done for speeding and knowing he was going to lose his licence and lose his job, commited suicide. The driver didnt have another job, and to get another job would of been hard so he hung himself.
Whats the point there? You can see how hard it is to get another job, so why take the guys job away.
Your also not looking at the bigger picture, if he doesnt have a job, he wouldnt be paying tax would he? Or as much tax?

No excuses, this is exactly the reason why this country is so crap.

They get away with it time and time again.

What Shar4ky said,if it is so valuable then don't act like a prat.

Nice bit of "blackmailing" there,"but I will lose my job".Knob!

Well your not really helping with that attitude are you? And the attitude to just take away licences and not going on if the person can still carry on without one isnt going to help is it?
If your job got taken away now because you did something silly, what would you do? Put yourself in this guys situation.

Okay, let's go a little OTT. Someone murders someone else...they'd go to prison. Therefore, they'd loose their job (and no be able to support their family) and not be able to contribute to the country via tax.

If I can see how hard it is to get another job, so can they. When I drive, if I go a little bit too fast to save 5 minutes, I know the risks. If I decide to drive too fast and get some points for it, that's what happens when you loose the gamble.

Don't start fussing over it. Your attitude Joe was a bit like mine as a kid (and probably still now ;)) when playing video games and things...oh, just 5 more minutes....oh, just 5 more minutes....oh just....it's got to stop sometime. This man's time has come and he should be penalised for it.

I'm sure there are other ways for this man to get to work if he didn't have the car.

If I did the same silly thing over and over again I wouldn't be surprised. Driving licences are a right!

So just let them get away with it as usual?
Soft touch doesn't work.
Endangering peoples lives is fine by you?
That's probably why so many people out there do it because they can get away with it.

If I lose my job I lose my job but it won't be by being a general moron like this person.

I could lose my job any day as im aware of and as people on this board who are aware of what my job is may be able to appreciate why as could any of my work colleagues.

I'm sure there are other ways for this man to get to work if he didn't have the car.

Yeah I take it he spun the no car no job line in court.

I dont play computer games so i dont get what your getting at.
And with the current climate, where is he supposed toget a job? Im down to 4 hours, and so is my GF from 8 hours. This must be some sign that there arent many jobs going.
This is the third time hes done it, hes got the points before and he went to court because he would of lost his licence.
He didnt murder anyone either, he was just on his mobile.
Or are you thinking because he wason his mobile and driving, he has almost mudered someone? Do you also think this about people who have a fag, turn up the radio or change cds or radio stations when driving?

I don't think having a fag or turning up the radio is as bad as using a mobile phone although it's not perfect.I've seen some really bad motosists out there risk other peoples lives but that seems to be okay with you.

Surely that would tell him how valuable that his job is then, but it doesn't seem that way because if he was he wouldn't get caught yet again.

My job is valuable to me and it has been for the last 27 years and im working my damdest hardest to keep it.

He went to court to dispute the fact that due to repeatedly using his mobile phone, illegally, he built up enough points to loose his license.

As this is the third time he's done it, the points having worked, yet you can't punish someone in a way that means they loose their job, how can you stop this man breaking the law?

Give me your solution to stop him using his mobile phone?

I've had a license for over a year now, so I've never legally been allowed to use a mobile phone when driving. My passenger once put their phone on speaker phone (so, hands free) so I could legally talk to the person. I found it so distracting that I couldn't decide when it was safe to pull out at a junction, so I definitely wouldn't want to hold one to my face. Yet, I've never had any problems pushing a button on a radio.

Taking the biscuit
TBH to fine more heavily is potentially more/as damaging to this guy than his losing his job. I don't think it would be much of a deterrent as with the example of making cigarettes more expensive, people will continue to pay up and only bitch more about how hard done to they are.;)

3 times you're out would be my message. And a life ban at that.
As we can all attest there are enough aggressive, self important and selfish idiots that that number could be happily reduced to make a more pleasant space on the road for the rest who can follow the law.
