Using a mobile phone when driving is okay...

Im a driver but not of motor vehicles and I really understand how important concentration is when out on the road.

If I use a mobile while driving I believe they would sack me instantly.

Also our rulebook states that our mobile phones must be turned off while driving.

If I get caught by a manager I would hate to think what would happen because although I don't use my phone while driving I sometimes forget to turn it off.

To punish him better, heavier fines, and make him have a small car and have it restricted to a certain speed. That will stop him.
Restrict it to 40mph, he can still get around, but not go too fast or far.
Ive used my phone while cycling when i had it attached to my bars, i put it on speaker phone and was able to chat without too much of a problem and without it being a distraction, or at least i thought not, i did still have both hands on the bars tho, well sort of, i didnt have my hands full if you get me?

I don't do it because generally my call is not so important that I have to cycle and use a mobile and also if it was I would stop,get on the pavement (not cycling on the pavement) and use it to my hearts content if I wanted to use it.

mobile phones are not important to me as I don't want to be a general wally walking about outside unaware of my surroundings because im talking to someone at 530 in the morning or whatever time it is.

Happily it's rare I see a cyclist using a mobile phone while cycling but I don't think I have ever seen one using a hands free.

Well so far, 3 lots of £60, whatever the court has fined him(not been put on how much he was fined for that) and the amount that all those points will add onto his insurance costs for the years between now and when the points go off his licence, so for a long time.

Your making a generealisation. When im on the phone and im walking, im still looking around when i cross the road and im walking around.
And when i have my ipod in, im looking around more, and checking the road more when im crossing it.
Actually surgons do go on the phone whilst operating, ive seen it on Holby City.

He wasn't speeding. Using a mobile phone at 40 or less isn't any more, legally acceptable.

Seems an open and shut case. If someone had 9pts with 3 that were going to expire in not that long and they'd racked up 6 recently for a particular behaviour only the most stupid and selfish sort of driver would not change their behaviour temporarily just to get themselves over that date. Given all the information we have and taking into account the loss of job and perhaps family issues a 6 month ban is entirely adequate.

If he needs his licence for his job then should he not of protected it by not using his phone? Not once but 3 times he got caught so how many times has he been using it when he didn't get caught ? If someone ran your kids /mom/dad/wife /husband over killing or seriously harming them because they were on their phone and not concentrating then you found out they had already been had a number of times wouldn't you wonder why they were still on the road. I say Ban him and let someone more responsible take his job, there are plenty of people looking for a job out there his loss would be someone else’s gain.

I agree and I see it daily in London.I have to look out for peds because they aren't being responsible for themselves.

Of course it is my job to look out for peds anyway as a cyclist but I do think that using a mobile while being in charge of a pair of legs can be dodgy.

£1,000 fine and 80 hours community service working with those injured in RTAs. A 3 month ban and retake driving test when ban expires would seem fair. He would only have 10 weeks if getting taxis, cycling or walking to and from work or his wife could drive him?
