I need to find a large monitor and am just wondering if any of the tech geeks on here can suggest a good tv to do the job? 40 inch and upwards.

Any TV with a HDMI input. I hook the laptop up to my 37" set to watch Eurosport.

I had my 32" LG LCD telly as my only monitor for a good couple of years. Obviously it's too big to work up close really, but great for eg iplayer, games etc. Now use as second monitor for same purposes with a relatively dinky 22" actual monitor for daily use.

Note that most tellies (conventionally) only have HD resolution ie 1920x1080 pixels which is fine generally but if you do want a large monitor for eg graphics work then you'll probably have to get a dedicated one that will allow the computer's video card to drive it fully.

Yeah you need a video card in your computer that has either a HDMI output or a DVI output. Both transmit the same quality HD signal.

DVI is more common to see in computers but HDMI is better because a) it can also carry sound signals and b) there is only one format whereas with DVI there are like, three I think.

my tv has various inputs including hdmi as well as.a vga and other.comperish ones so I had a choice. Worked easily enough. I had to move to hdmi when I bought a blueray drive - might have had to install drivers but wasnt an issue. My biggish tv is also my pc monitor

Hmm, this is one for the office, so will be used more as a monitor than a tv.

I use the vga input (old laptop, doesn't have an hdmi port) and it's fine. Didn't have to mess with drivers or nought, the laptop just did what it needed to do by auto-detect.
