We don't do valentines day. pointless really, our anniversary is on the 9th so we do stuff for that instead. depending on when valentines falls though means it can be expensive for us, hell don't get me started on how roses alone triple in price, when i point out valentines is 6 days off (say bought on the 8th) they always just shrug. feh. she loves white roses to boot.

anyhoo, this year we're going away for the weekend, kids with grandparents and off we go, we'll care not for valentines but it'll be 11 years married on sat.

I don't think it's the flowers themselves, but the perceived convenience of the purchase. Flowers from a florist suggest a special trip. Flowers from a garage suggest remembering on the way home and diving into somewhere where it's easy to park, and you can pick up a Mars Bar and 5lt of Castrol GTX at the same time.
That's an interesting theory Arch, but I would consider roses purchase at a petrol station to be an indication of environmental awareness. The donor had thought things out and rather than drive around town between work, petrol station, florist and home, he had managed to avoid the extra leg to the florist by killing two birds with one stone at the petrol station.
OTOH, my bypassing of florist shops is probably another factor that has led to my single status.

Jeez, you know a place is pretentious when they specify 'hen's egg' on the menu.

"Yes waiter, I'll have the pig's ham, hen's egg and potato chips please..."
Well, I guess it clarifies that it isn't a 100% pure beef hamburger with quail's egg and parsnip chips.

The roses and the stamp, that's two fails for me on this thread in the romance stakes. It's only now I'm beginning to understand the reasons for past rejections:sad:.
Thanks Arch.

No problem, if you need any more feminine insights... er, you better find a girly girl to ask.

I once got a card, on or around Valentine's Day (before I knew NT), with a pic similar to this on it.

Most women might be offended by a card featuring an elephant and the back end of a bus, but I loved it.

Oh 5 litres of Castrol, what a wonderful present that would make.
