four of us are flying to France taking 3 bikes and wanted to hire a van to transport us and our bikes whilst there. Can't seem to find a vehicle large enough on car hire websites - can anyone recommend? Many thanks

If you can find one you want a Merc Vito with two rows of seats and a van back half....

In addition to what Brian says, if you google 'location camionette' Carrefour dominate the listing, so they may be worth checking out:

https://www.carrefourlocation.fr/

EDIT: another option might be a 6-seater people carrier with two of the seats folded down. (I'm no expert on people carriers so someone may correct me to say that's silly).

Rather limited on places you can hire from, but cheap. Looks like the closest place they have to Avignon is Bagnols sur Cèze, then you have the faff of trying to get there in the first place.

Ah right. And I thought the advantage of Carrefour might be lots of places to pick up from!

I know there's a risk of being told 'shut up you silly man of course I've already looked there' but have you tried:

https://www.hertz.fr/

https://www.sixt.fr/

or even

http://www.avis.co.uk/ (although they seem to be a lot more expensive than the other two).

All do people carriers (on the Hertz site they are in the 'familiale' section while Sixt call them 'monospaces'.

Hertz and Sixt both do vans ('utilities') although if say you were flying to Lyon you'd have to go into the city to pick up the van from Sixt. I'm guessing they cost less than people carriers, but if there's four of you it might be worth stumping up the extra.

Ah, quite a puzzler. How do people with bikes get to a destination? What possible transport options do they have? </sarcarsm>

Better probably would be to fly into Marseille, and pick the van up from Aix-en-provence. Only 20km or so, and there is a direct train from the airport. There's some nice restaurants at Marseille airport (air side, mostly, as I recall) so 3 of them could wait there while fourth gets the van.
