I had planned a train journey to pick up tiles at my North East corner but decided to man up and do the ride. So I did an 80 miler today which sorted that corner out ^_^

I added over 300 new tiles last weekend but my max cluster & square are unchanged.

Trouble is, I've lost my cycling mojo for local rides, so plotting routes specific to my veloviewer goals is just a bit "meh", particularly as they involve busy A roads to the south, and urban nastiness to the north.

Currently looking at audax uk events instead, as i'm loving being further afield.

Yep I had a fair bit of urban nastiness yesterday but was pleasantly surprised when the route also took me through Walsall Arboretum and Sutton Park.

Had a similar feeling last year where it was so annoying to have to do long distances just to grab one or two tiles, as I'd already claimed everything (that was feasible with a road bike anyway) within 25 miles of my house, that I decided to do a different challenge for a while.

As I'd only recently purchased a new bike, I set up a bookmark to VeloViewer's activity page where it only showed rides I'd done on that bike. Because I'd done all the back routes to gain those hard to reach tiles just the once on my old bike, the new map looked like a patchwork quilt, so I started to fill in the blanks again and do some of the easy to cross off local odd tiles. I'm not going to revisit every tile that I did on the old bike, but enough to make the map look a little bit better.

Took the opportunity of my last day off before I head back to work to start whittling down the gap on my map in North London between Edgeware and Twickenham.

14 new tiles added; one I was very lucky to get as the road was closed due to a burst water main, but I went up as close as I could get to the road closure sign (riding past a number of other signs) before U-turning and picking up the diversion. Thankfully that was enough to get the tile (and the diversion would NOT have gone through it) but I didn't know that until after I uploaded the ride when I got home!

Just back from a week away in Somerset adding 40 new squares to my total ,now 6647
Screenshot_20250517-163119.png

A return visit show so I took the chance to nab 2 difficult squares ( marked with red dots ) that I surrounded last year . They required a bit of off roading last year the tracks where wet and muddy this year quite rideable dry and dusted gravel . Quite lucky with the dead straight road middle right it just went into the squares the road was almost parallel with the square edge.

5 new squares today as I went to London to see the Queen. Well I went to Chelsea Flower Show, then when I’d had enough of that went to Trafalgar Square and whilst there, Charlie and his missus came out of what I assumed was the Canadian embassy, either that or they’ve finally decided to to remake Due South. (Google it kids.)

Any way 11 miles of walking gave me 5 squares, London is horrible.

The driveway from the north Bells plantation is the locked gate access , there may be a chance from the east at the Spinney can't remember anything about this
Max square up to 51*51 😁. Both attempts from the north were stopped due to locked gates so had to back track over the A1 and as I headed from Foston to Allington I noticed a track roughly where the spinney is printed so I nipped in and grabbed in . If any lawyers are reading this no accessing of private property or ignoring signs stating this took place on this ride 😁
