So I am heading home and a red escort convertible pulls out of a side street on the right causing me to have concerns that our paths were about to intersect.
He sees me, waits and I pass.
As I pass he shouts "F___ YOU!"
I then stop and ask "What?"
He then shouts "Come on then!" and drives the car right at me.

Stubborn cyclist mode kicks in and I don't flinch even though he stops about 6 inches from my back wheel.

He then revs his engine angrily and off he goes on his way.

Got the plate R659 UJH using the old repeat to self until you get a pen method and best of all got the entire thing on the old helmet cam.

This is the first real agressive road rage I have been on the end of since getting the cam and I will be reporting it to the police tomorrow. I thought of maybe going down to the station tonight while it is still fresh in my mind.

I haven't put the footage on youtube yet as I'm not sure if it would mean the police could no longer use it?

I will keep you updated.

Take the footage to plod. Report what happened. This sort of thing where the car is used as a weapon should not have to be tolerated.

Straight to the police with that one. Absolutely! Anyone who even threatens to use their vehicle as a weapon should be instantly banned plus some.

Probably best to keep the footage out of public view for the moment. As you say I'm not sure how publication would go down if it was to be taken as evidence.

Just make sure you don't change the original recording at all. Keep it where it is and don't modify it in any way.

Good luck!

I pass the Police Station on the way into work so I will pop in and report it.

They have been pretty good in the past at following this type of thing up.
So it will be interesting to see what they make of the video.

Could give 'em a bell tonight to actually report it, let them know you're coming in tomorrow. Might save time?

If you've got video evidence then they've got no excuse for not bothering to do anything about it. They might try and forget about it, so keep going back and hassling them again and again until he gets prosecuted.

Glad you came out in one piece Andy, don't expect much from plod though they will just laugh at you when they find out your 'just a cyclist'.

Another vote for reporting it. The twat.

I popped into the station today and explained what had happened.

Initially it was the usual case of "well we can make an allegation of bad driving but without a witness..."

I said I have the whole thing on video if that helps.

The mood quickly became more positive and he said he would talk to one of his colleagues and that I should receive a phone call later today.

I will keep you guys updated.

That's certainly one way helmet cams (same as with CCTV) help. It seems to make no difference to prevention, but makes the prospect of an admission, a guilty plea or a conviction (and therefore a clearner, cheaper, quicker clear-up) much more likely...

I hope they take this seriously now.
