I have to regrease the back wheel on my Felt on a regular basis as it gets noisy. Don't think the Felt OE hubs are up to much, might look at a wheel upgrade for my birthday.

I used to work in a bike factory when Britain manufactured things and the way the guys fitted the bearings was interesting - they would just smear sticky grease around the bearing seat, dip the part into a big tub of bearings and whack in the other half. The stickiness of the grease usually retained a line of balls in a nice ring and the fitting of the other half of the bearing pushed away any surplus balls. It was a bit hit and miss though; they were terrible bikes. The place was ruled by a really gross bullying shop steward called Keith who used to throw the finished bikes across the shop floor in a strop, everybody was terrified of him.

Decathlon replaced the wheel. I'll get more details when I collect it but they said something about a bolt in the hub?

Thanks for the assistance. I think I will replace the wheels but maybe in a month or so, I've had an expensive January  with the myriad of extras I've purchased already. All necessary of course :bicycle:

I know you say you have had an expensive January but if you are looking at wheels the entry level Shimano R501's are £71.99 at Ribblecycles and if you buy them before midnight and use the SALE12 code you will get them for less than £64 including postage. I have just had to do this for my OH's Triban 3 and mine had to have new wheels back at Easter last year. This noise, out of interest is it there all the time or just when you are free wheeling?

:hugs: Life is soooo much easier when knowledgeable people tell me the right thing to do. That isn't sarcasm by the way, I really appreciate the info and it's 10 times easier to spend money when someone else tells you it's a good deal . I think this is a job for my credit card. Thanks Satnav

you will need a shimano cassette removal tool as well, to move the cassette over to the new wheel but they are £6 ish or so... I'll see if I can find you a link.

OK - not sure on the quality - but you will only need it twice. Once on the old wheel and once on the new wheel.

ideally you need a chain whip as well, but you can just use a piece of old chain...

Once you have the wheels - just either post back here or google "how to remove cassette" and you will find plenty of youtube or parktools links to do so. Tis a doddle to do.
