Dunno about that. The Taliban subjugates, oppresses, excludes and devalues women, but also insist they dress up in burkas when they leave the house. I don't suppose they approve of porn, or viewing women as sex objects in the way we usually understand it to mean. From reading Pride and Prejudice, it seemed women in those days had very few economic options. Their economic outlook depended on who they could marry. Sex before marriage was a scandal, so they could hardly be considered sex objects either. A lot of value was placed on virginity, so a lot of oppression by men was to stop their women from being regarded as sex objects. Some of the subjugation, oppression, etc must have been due to women not being strong enough to fight and being tied to the house to look after children. Plus, I'm not sure that just because a lot of people do want to have sex with you, your identity is reduced. Was Marilyn Monroe's?
