The corresponding numbers list contains the voter's electoral roll number against the relevant ballot serial number. It's fairly easy to link the various bits together and identify the ballots of individual voters. That's what 'The Scrutiny' process of electoral courts is all about.
I was referring to the system as a whole.

How did he get this far. Declaration for standing has this bit covered. Oh well £5000 down the drain.
its really strange because when we looked on line at the local candidates we both said he looks dodgy geezer ....... and sure enough , although he does now say his criminal record is re a £20 fine ..........................

There is an issue about criminal records. What isn't made clear is that the post of PCC is exempted from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. This means that all convictions, irrelevant of when they occurred and whether they would otherwise be considered "spent", act as a bar to standing.

I tend to side with some of the commentators that suggest this absolute bar is unfair. Why should someone who did something stupid as a kid 50 years ago be barred from standing? After all MPs, who have as much influence over policing as PCCs will have, are only barred if they are bankrupted...
I'm with you on this.

Someone who made a stupid error of judgment as a teenager and then spent the following decades being as honest and law abiding as anything is going to be better then someone who has spent a lifetime of being dishonest and lawbreaking but avoiding being caught or charged.

Will be voting early on tomorrow. We have 4 candidates here, 3 political bods, lib, lab, con, and an independent.
The indie is an ex copper so at least he has some idea of what the police actually do.

To be honest I've no idea if this is a good thing or not. At least voting for an individual you have a vague idea of what they stand for and they are at least accountable every so often. It really can't be any worse than the gaggle of 'committee professionals' we have at the moment. Their collective record of overseeing the various police forces is not exactly a glittering example.

I will vote in the morning, but I need to figure out who to vote for.

I rather object to the post being made a political issue with the candidates representing parties. I was going to go and spoil my vote to protest at this but the one Independant candidate (here in Hampshire) seems by far the best choice anyway so he gets my vote.

We were a Polling Station today. When I left at 5.30, the guys reckoned they'd got a 4.5% turnout so far. They'd just had rush of 4 people in an hour.

We were trying to work out if one of the guys who smoked had had more cigarettes than voters....
