Surf Shark user for 5+ years now without any issues. Use DDG with surfshark for extra safety.

1) primarily for EYE PEE TV.
2) unlimited devices can be logged in with one account (was 10 devices before).
3) check their Black Friday deals. Comes as cheap as £1.50 or £2 per month without Black Friday deals.
4) uses RAM servers.
5) has their own search, antivirus, alternate ID option & an alert system that notifies if any of your info is leaked online.

Check it out of interested. Best money I spent on any service after my eye pee tv (another 5+ years with no issues).

Personally on the most popular plan. Not trying to sell anything but good deals for Black Friday if someone is interested.

Do not click the second result if you search for “surfshark” as it just redirects to Nord services.

I've used various VPN providers and always go for the ex-hacker smaller operations. They tend to run plenty of servers from plenty of different countries but because of their background they won't "roll over" if threatened by Governments - privacy is their motivation rathe than profit and if forced to start acting against their published policies they'll just close down rather then hand out information.

Plus they are often more "techy" and earlier supporting newer technologies eg there are relatively few VPN providers supporting IPv6 and many are the "hacktivist" type providers.

I often wonder about free VPNs... Why would it be free? I have heard good things about ProtonVPN though.
It's like most things, only the basic services are free.
Limited choices of countries (if you want to watch country based content), limited devices per account.

I use McAfee AV Total Protection (across multiple devices) and that comes with a VPN. Costs me about £19 a year for the entire suite.
The VPN only switches on when it detects you're on a public WiFi, so not useful for geofenced content.

Pixel phones have a free VPN service. It doesn't appear to allow a choice of international endpoints (,eg for accessing region-locked content) but i hope it improves security when using public WiFi services.

If you are not looking to shift your location then you can run your own VPN using a Raspberry Pi at home. Tutorials are easy to find online.

That is more of a filter for ads and malware, it doesn't get rid of the government identity checks.

Duck Duck Go browser on Android offers something similar but most sites still find a way to shove ads in your face, but it does turn the volume down a little bit.

It’s a lot more than that. I get a secure link from public WiFi back to my home from where I get better control of my connection to the internet. Yes, it doesn’t get rid off government ID checks but that is not what the OP was asking.

Wonderful things are raspberry pi... (what is the plural??) I have several; media servers/players, adblocking, tvheadend, wap.... I know I could set one up as a vpn too if I wanted. But I don't. I have zerotier on my pi file server (and one adblocker) that I use for remote access to my home network.

I've been using Proton since the summer, and have been very impressed.
Currently have it on my laptop and phone, and I think I can have up to 5 installs.
There was a brilliant 2 year deal on when I signed up, and with a shopping ~£35 cashback through top cashback (Which has tracked and is payable) so it has ended up costing me less than £2 per month, although I'll need to be on the call when it comes to renewal time.

You can set up profiles for different countries etc, and I've very rarely had an issue, sometimes just having to change the city it's connecting to within a country, but very little bother really.
