Slow, noisy, unreliable, rusty and all the appeal of a second hand dog plop. Lots seem to be the preserve of the middle aged hipster, driving round everywhere with their sunglasses and straw hat, arm out of the window doing 27mph flat out. Never ceases to amaze me the prices people pay for VW campers, or to be honest VWs in general.

Probably the commonest vehicle down by me over Summer is a VW campervan of some description. There's a couple of companies in the village that specialise in refurbishing or converting them. The prices are eyewateringly laughable. There's a lot of mugs about.
The later T4/T5 vans are competent enough vehicles, but are vastly over priced compared to similar offerings from other major manufacturers.

Drove to Kathmandu in one in 1974. We had no mechanical problems of any description, other than pushing it part way up a dirt road somewhere in deepest Turkey; and that for only about 100 metres.
From India it was shipped to Australia and was last seen trundling happily around Melbourne.

There used to be a stretch of road down by the river (Vauxhall Bridge way?) which had somehow become a sort of impromptu vw combi exchange - Aussies & Kiwis all knew about it, and would turn up, buy one, and head off for the great European tour, then come back to the same place and sell it to the next adventurer. It might still be there for all I know.
