Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
If that were the cause wouldn‘t it have gone wrong in 2019, a couple of years after release? I suspect it’s not the chipsets just Wahoo’s interpretation of the messages being incorrect after their latest updates.

Could be. It's certainly not as simple as jyst missing the rollover, as DC Rainmaker suggests, because that happened 8 years ago.

Whatever... What's important is whether they can fix it. We'll never know the root cause, and as long as it gets fixed it's pretty irrelevant. But fun to learn about all the same.

Yep, agreed.
Im not particularly bothered what's caused it although be interesting to know, I'd just like it sorted and soon as possible.
I'm back out to Mallorca in a couple of weeks so I'd really want it done before then.

Latest update ;

Update - Aug 22, 5:21 PM ET

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to resolve the GPS time issue on ELEMNT, BOLT 1, and ROAM 1 computers. We know how frustrating this has been, and we truly appreciate your understanding.

We have identified a firmware solution and will be testing it thoroughly this weekend to ensure it's completely stable. We expect the testing to take at least three days.

We will release the fix via a standard firmware update as soon as we have confirmed the solution. Our team is working hard to get you back on the road.

I am surprised that no-one saw it coming..they have said it is to do with the 10 bit capacity and it was a hard break on that specific date. The code is not that old that no-one understands it anymore. Fingers crossed for the fix

Update - Aug 23, 6:49 PM ET

We continue to apply all resources to resolve the GPS time issue for all first generation ELEMNT computers. We have now released the fix for BOLT 1 and ROAM 1 computers via firmware update that should resolve the issue going forward* for those models. A firmware update for original ELEMNT computers is currently in development.

The updated firmware versions for ROAM 1 and BOLT 1 are as follows:
ROAM 1 – WR24 - 17055
BOLT 1 – WB17 - 17055

To receive the fix for future rides*, please ensure that your computer is connected to a viable Wi-Fi network and complete a standard firmware update. for more detail on these processes and basic troubleshooting, please review the articles below:

* The firmware update will not change or recover any rides completed between August 17 and when it is updated. For information on recovering or changing ride dates, see Retrieve / change ride files from ELEMNT, BOLT 1, or ROAM 1 from August 2025

Um.. mines switched on without doing any update.

Going into settings and see which firmware you have. Mine was on WB15-17055, I checked for updates and it's now WB17-17055 so hopefully all sorted. I'll find out next ride!

So unit is on? If you press left hand button you can't get into system info etc? Will it switch off?

If it's on an won't respond or even switch off maybe wait until battery dies then charge and see if it recovers. In mean time contact Wahoo.

Not sure what else to suggest.

Its on WB15 and is now bricked. Will not respond to any button press.

A few months ago mine was bricked in the sense that it was in a continuous reboot cycle - rebooting every 20 seconds and I couldn't use any buttons. In the end I just let it continue to reboot until the battery ran out - this took over a day to discharge the battery. Then when I plugged it back in it rebooted correctly (and seemed to be completing a software upgrade for a few seconds). Worked ok after that.

I'd had a support ticket open and was talking to their support guy and he said this afterwards:

Based on the information you have provided, the issue is likely occurring on your ELEMNT device due to a lack of free space on the unit. We recommend having at least 1.2GB of free space for the best performance.

As it stands, we would recommend increasing the free space by deleting all the unused maps from the MANAGE MAPS section in the Elemnt App settings page.

So it seemed to me that the upgrade wasn't completing because there was no memory left on the device. I had loaded up lots of European maps into it previously, when I went abroad on holiday which took up a lot of space and I guess the upgrade I had started didnt have enough room to complete so rebooted.

Resolved by a very long press of the power button. Had to go into System Info (down the bottom of the Setting menu on the Bolt) and tell it to check for updates. It also needs at least 25% charge to do the update. Now WB17.

Just done mine, first time I turned it on I got nothing, so I turned it off and on again then it came up with the update. The time is right, I'll go for a ride later and see if the date is also right.

Went for a ride, the wahoo was saying n/a speed and n/a for distance. Looked at the app which said GPS disabled. Played around with it at the roadside with no luck, so I rode on. Stopped a little while later and tried turning it off and on again. Nothing changed on the wahoo but it did start recording my ride from that point. Then ten minutes later it started working again. Showing both speed and distance. Not sure what to make of that, see what happens next time.

I suspect that it took some time to reacquire satellites starting from scratch.

I updated my v1 today - it took a couple of goes to actually initiate the update but once going it updated OK. Not used it yet but next time I do I’ll be sure to switch on in plenty of time to find the satellites.
