SCR has been great the last week. So many people on bikes! I personally think it's great and hopefully more and more people will ditch their single person journeys in the car and pick up a bike. Even if it is a BSO from tesco.

Swapping over or not swapping over?

I wouldn't mind pulling someone along, but I just fear if I did swap over and pull in front of the initial draftee, that it would translated as me being a douche and getting in the way....
yesterday on the way back home from work some guy on a MTB was drafting me for quite some time my legs were tired and I was going at a slow pace. I made a effort for him to pass I even went into the bus lane he followed me into it. I looked at him and told him to pass me. So he did I was much quicker then him so I was drafting him. Got to a hill I left him for dust he could not keep up!!!

But it pissed me off! I was quite angry with him.

After 3 pages of reading, just to clarify, I usually love drafting people, does that make a douche and/or TDF wannabe?
I'm fairly sure we've never met. My bike handling skills aren't great but I do know the limitations of both my bikes eg how fast I can go on each and how quickly I can pull each one to a stop. Do you really want to be drafting someone you don't know when you've no idea when they are going to stop? That's the issue with drafting.

That's the fun part surely

Completely agree with you there, but isn't also the drafters responsibility to still be completely aware of whats happening in front of the draftee?

It is because I won't be telling you. But even if you know what's in front of me, without knowing me you don't know how I'll react to it and if you're drafting the chances are you'll be too close to react to my reaction.

Drafting has it's place. I do draft and I also invite people to draft me (riding into headwinds is a speciality of mine) but only people I know well.

Now every man and his dog thinks they are pro cyclist after watching one Stage and went off to Halfords and bought a bike.

Cycling to work this morning. Taking my time. Here comes a Roadie/joker drafting behind me I just smiled.

^^ This.
I trust Martin implicitly on bike rides, but this is due to the many thousands of miles we have cycled together over the years. I instinctively know his style of riding, gear changes and braking. And I guess he feels the same when he is drafting me.

People I don't know, or those that I do know but haven't spent a lot of time cycling with. Then they can stay back and I will stay back from them.

I've not come across it much in cycling, I stay at least a bike length from the bike in front of me and I'm not fast enough for people to want to take my wheel I guess. But I have with observed rides in motorbiking and hated it. I was on a group ride with Institute of Advanced Motorists observers and one asked if anyone wanted his services, I said 'No' but he decided to do it anyway. After the first close call I spent the next 3 miles riding through every puddle I could find and he buggered off to annoy someone else. If someone does similar to my back wheel on the bicycle, I'll do the same sort of thing, people riding within my comfort zone makes me (who'd have thought) uncomfortable and I don't want it happening without an invite, I have enough to worry about without having to also worry about you and what dangers you might present to me.
What does it mean?
As has been mentioned it' means KIng of the Mountain, although with strava that can mean down hill as well as up, if you're the fastest on a segment you get the KOM.
