With this flipping cold weather, I often want to cycle in wearing something more than just my cycling jacket. The problem is that after two or three days, my jacket starts to niff. My cycling jacket never seems to niff much, much anything like a fleece or a warm jacket does. Any suggestions?

Merino wool is very pong resistant, to an extent i was very pleasantly surprised when i got some. I'm slowly converting to more an more of the stuff. I got my stuff from On One

I tend to find that if you wash your clothes the smell goes away.

give it a try.^_^

No, I have taken on a ripe odour in the last month or two and I just don't understand it. My gear gets washed with big brand Bio-powder regularly, but certain shirts, my fleeces, my gloves and even my fleece hat whiff almost straightaway, after only one ride or sometimes it is noticeable even after the garments have been warmed by my body temp before a ride.

I don't know if it is just due to heavy use in this extended cold weather or if I have changed biologically to produce super resistant sweat. I am considering chucking out quite a lot of my gear and trying again because I don't want to stink like an old tramp after every ride, I certainly never used to!

It must be you or your flavour of BO.

I wear Endura Thermolite Pro bibs and Helly Hansen Warm Base Layers and cheaper Campari base layers (SportsDirect) every day and an Endura cycling jacket. None of my stuff pongs. I wash it each evening when I get home on super quick wash 22 minutes at 30C in Persil non-bio. Hang it up to dry in warm bathroom. Come morning clothing is clean and fresh and dry. At the end of each week I give it all a full "sports/synthetic wash" at 40C which is nearly 2 hours. It all comes out very clean and fresh. Perhaps you need a new/better washing machine?

Here for rides.
like it or not we wash synthetic stuff at relatively low temps these days.

Not hot enough to deal a death blow to nasty niffs imo/ime

Merino every time for me; Planet-X/On-one, Shutt Velo Rapide, Lab Gear, and Ground Control.
