Which can cause a massive problem. No one knows what the future holds for them and there may come a time in someone's life when what they put in the public domain comes back to haunt them. A social worker I know became the butt of considerable media interest after a case she was involved in resulted in a tragedy for which she was initially blamed but later cleared. She had to frantically delete all the photos of herself and her family from her FB account and contact everyone she knew asking them to do the same with pictures she'd sent before the press got them.

In the US it is considered "due diligence" to ask for the candidate's facebook log in details and to assess the content.

One candidate lost a senior management post because of photos of a night out, and several people have been sacked for the content of their facebook sites

I use Facebook and find it a good way to stay in touch with family and friends I don't see regularly. I love seeing photos of what they are getting up to but I automatically post to my friends and sometimes only subsets of them. I don't understand why people post to everyone especially when it is something I wouldn't post in the first place.

I was very sceptical of facebook but find it's a good way to see what up and coming events are happening in the Salsa world and various other social groups that I am involved in as they are always posted on facebook. I very rarely post anything of my own - certainly no "I'm having cornflakes for breakfast" pointless bullshit that some do.

It's easy to criticise Facebook but I find it a really good way to keep in touch with friends that live overseas. I probably go on there once or twice a week and don't use it on my phone. Within the last month through Facebook I have reconnected with some old friends from Kibbutz that I haven't seen for years. I guess I find it a good way to stay in touch, but I don't want to live my life on there.
+1... and we use Skype to keep in touch with Master and Miss A_T wherever they are... it still amazes me it's free [at least for us to use it- probably wired in to some advertising somewhere but we're not aware of it.]

I won't use the Android facebook app because I don't like the permissions. Here's some highlights
  • read your contacts
  • modify your contacts
  • read calendar events plus confidential information
  • add or modify calendar events and send email to guests without owners' knowledge
  • read your text messages (SMS or MMS)
  • download files without notification
  • adjust your wallpaper size
  • create accounts and set passwords
  • change your audio settings
  • toggle sync on and off
  • draw over other apps
  • expand/collapse status bar
  • set wallpaper
  • reorder running apps
  • connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi

Facebook has made the holiday photo acceptable in society...

Before Facebook, people would moan about the impending doom that is "Oh you must come 'round and see the holiday snaps!"..
Before Facebook, people would whine endlessly to all and sundry about the excruciating boredom of having to look at said holiday snaps. These days, holiday snaps are one big 'like' fest. People fall over themselves, clicking 'like' like a 'like' whore, posting witty comments and getting all giggly and proud at the 'likes' they receive because they said "Oh nice photo!"

<rant>

...and then there's the utter tossery of the friends list... they are not your friends! They moved to another part of the world for a reason and that reason is to get the feck away from YOU! The only reason they are on your 'friends' list is because you want to appear popular, and that's the same reason you are on their 'friends' list... they want everyone else to think they're more popular than they are. People use Facebook because the world hates them, and they know it!

Friends on Facebook!

Two girls on a night out and both fancied the same lad, so theer was an argument.

Then we had the ultimate --- They "defriended" each other

The furore that caused..................you would have though that they had sent round a mass murderer to wipe out the other's entire family by boilingthem alive in oil and then serving the remains as a meal.
