I would suggest next time stopping next to the car and getting some footage of the driver's face and phone. That's something I wish I had done on a few occasions.

I was going to when he was turning right further down the road, but he wasn't on his phone any longer.

Had a driving instructor change lanes without looking nearly taking out my front end when driving works van a while back - mobile firmly clamped to his ear.

Stopped behind him at a set of lights that I knew to be a long wait so whipped my phone out and called the number on the sign (was an independant, not a franchise).Put on my "telephone voice" and claimed to be a police officer (perhaps illegal but hey..) telling him that he was on a last chance, to put the phone down and if I was to see him holding it and driving again, I'd make sure he lost his ADI.

Never seen someone put a phone down so quick

hahaha ...naughty, but funny!

I've found most instructors are pretty poor at carrying out a task in their own time that they instruct upon. Driving instructors, clergy, financial advisors, cycling instructors, sports instructors - if you show little promise of ever winning anything become an instructor. Having said that they are pretty crap at instructing to. The title of 'instructor' is just that - a title.

Except say instructors of martial arts or boxing, now some of them are well 'ard  .

I know but it was funny (and for a good cause)

If I said "Insinuated" rather than "Claimed" though....since I never actually said "I'm PC so-and-so from South Yorkshire Police". Not my fault if he misunderstood, is it?

And if he makes sure he uses a hands free at least, then no remorse from me about it at all

I think you set yourself up there by your own admission .

Alas no. From the same page linked to:-

Section 38 enables chief officers of police to designate suitably skilled and trained civilians under their direction and control to exercise powers and undertake duties in carrying out specified functions. A chief officer can designate civilians to perform functions in four categories: community support officer; investigating officer; detention officer; and escort officer. The Director General of NCIS or NCS may designate support staff under his direction and control as investigating officers.

I don't expect too much from driving instructors....I mean how do half these clowns pass the driving tests?

Actually a very difficult series of tests. A part 1 written exam where high marks are required as well as certain marks on each section (ie you can't do badly on one section and pass by doing really well on all the other sections achieving the required overall pass mark) A long drivng test in all road conditions that from memory is 60 or 90 minutes long and a part three that tests teaching ability that is also, take it from me, very difficult. On top of that fail any of the parts three times and thats your lot and you have to start again. The driving test is the hardest I have ever done out of the ROSPA/IAM and taxi drivng tests

I didn't mean that badly on driving instructors sorry.

Im just flabbergasted how some people are allowed to drive.

The driving test is the hardest I have ever done out of the ROSPA/IAM and taxi drivng tests

Could that be a good thing?
