There are too many entitled prats of car drivers. A similar incident is in one of the YouTube car cam videos. A car is seen heading north through the village of Spofforth between Wetherby and Harrogate overtaking a row of parked cars from a cam in a car approaching from the north and which then proceeds to block the passage of the overtaking car and forces that car driver to reverse.:banghead:

I pointed out to someone on Twitter today how motorists insist they're not entitled then argue that cyclists shouldn't be allowed on the roads.

The point being the road was CLEAR before, & as Accy overtook the parked HGV, then another car appears, the driver of which should have backed off a bit, which would have allowed both parties to carry on without any grief, in my experience it's idiots like the other driver, who thinks he/she will teach Accy a lesson that's the sort of entitled twunt that would also happily try to run a cyclist off the road as well, it's quite simply trying to bully the driver of a smaller car, because they think they're better than Accy

And therein lies the nub of the matter , everyone seems to be in a rush to be somewhere before they've even started, plainly if you are making a risky manoeuvre to make progress , when there is a obstacle in your way, you do have a priority to complete,
Yes I agree that oncoming traffic should have given Accy room to pass the truck, not overtake as it was stopped, but there is this pervading attitude of entitlement , there's no impediment , so why should they stop?
Well yes they should, even if there way is clear, it's obvious something will likely pass from behind, that something was Accy!
It's called anticipation, but equally if you don't have a clear view, then you shouldn't have gone, you can position yourself to get that better view from further back , see the gap ,then progress.

Regarding your last paragraph, all I can say is that I weighed up the situation, saw it was clear then overtook the dray wagon while I didn't see anything approaching me. The photos show I could only see so far ahead due to the brow of the slight hill, but those approaching would have had the same view restriction, meaning they should've anticipated a vehicle overtaking the dray wagon and approached with caution not just driving on like nothing could happen. 🤔

You didn't have a collision, thankfully, so take the experience gained and maybe some of the comments on how maybe to negotiate a similar situation in the future- learned experience
