There are too many entitled prats of car drivers. A similar incident is in one of the YouTube car cam videos. A car is seen heading north through the village of Spofforth between Wetherby and Harrogate overtaking a row of parked cars from a cam in a car approaching from the north and which then proceeds to block the passage of the overtaking car and forces that car driver to reverse.:banghead:

I pointed out to someone on Twitter today how motorists insist they're not entitled then argue that cyclists shouldn't be allowed on the roads.

The point being the road was CLEAR before, & as Accy overtook the parked HGV, then another car appears, the driver of which should have backed off a bit, which would have allowed both parties to carry on without any grief, in my experience it's idiots like the other driver, who thinks he/she will teach Accy a lesson that's the sort of entitled twunt that would also happily try to run a cyclist off the road as well, it's quite simply trying to bully the driver of a smaller car, because they think they're better than Accy

And therein lies the nub of the matter , everyone seems to be in a rush to be somewhere before they've even started, plainly if you are making a risky manoeuvre to make progress , when there is a obstacle in your way, you do have a priority to complete,
Yes I agree that oncoming traffic should have given Accy room to pass the truck, not overtake as it was stopped, but there is this pervading attitude of entitlement , there's no impediment , so why should they stop?
Well yes they should, even if there way is clear, it's obvious something will likely pass from behind, that something was Accy!
It's called anticipation, but equally if you don't have a clear view, then you shouldn't have gone, you can position yourself to get that better view from further back , see the gap ,then progress.

Regarding your last paragraph, all I can say is that I weighed up the situation, saw it was clear then overtook the dray wagon while I didn't see anything approaching me. The photos show I could only see so far ahead due to the brow of the slight hill, but those approaching would have had the same view restriction, meaning they should've anticipated a vehicle overtaking the dray wagon and approached with caution not just driving on like nothing could happen. 🤔

You didn't have a collision, thankfully, so take the experience gained and maybe some of the comments on how maybe to negotiate a similar situation in the future- learned experience

As drummed into me ,on recent motorcycle training, always drive within a distance that you can see to be clear, in other words ' if you see nowt, drive in doubt'
I think what they meant was probably - Drive so that you can stop on your own side of the road in the distance you can see to be clear

I has a similar experience to the dray wagon overtaking incident yesterday evening. A bus pulled in to let passengers on and off, with me waiting till two oncoming vehicles passed, then I held back, wondering if there'd be a repeat of the said incident. I had a cars waiting behind me, with me thinking they'll be wondering why I don't overtake the bus. I was about to go for it when the bus indicated to pull out, saving me from my dilemma. I'm going to sit back and wait for busses to pull out now, instead of overtaking them when at a bus stop. Those behind me have the right to overtake me and the bus, so it's up to them if they want to risk it.

Lancashire County Council put those lights there yesterday, near to where the dray wagon was parked. As usual, no one did any roadworks yesterday, as they like to annoy everyone with sticking traffic restrictions up a few days before the actual work starts! As I waited, then went through the green light yesterday, I saw traffic approaching, coming over that slight hill!😲 Thankfully, this time the approaching traffic stopped to let me get through. The workmen had only gone and set the lights sequence incorrectly, with the problem recurring throughout the day, I was told later, till the workmen eventually came out to correct it.😏

he workmen had only gone and set the lights sequence incorrectly

Had the same a few days ago when taking my son out for a driving lesson. 4 way temporary lights that kept going green for the other 3 directions but not for us.
Wasn't entirely happy about instructing my son to drive through a red traffic light, but that was the only option. I was 99% sure the Highway Code allows it, but still haven't checked...

Its a 3 point offence regardless of the lights being knackered.

However, in that scenraio, if you're suitable careful and cautious, I cant seeing any bobby sticking you on. I wouldn't have done.

Handy tip - if every you have to do that then as soon as you're home report the faulty lights to the police. They'll inform the appropriate authority, even out of hours, but more importantly will record an incident so in the unlikely event you were spotted or filmed by some nosey parker then you have an official record of the situation.

Bloody signs for cars blocking the pavement. Put them on the bloody road where they belong!
